Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I was going to continue that I didn't remember which OKie is... Was gonna look back at pics!
Well - how about Stormy :) I'm sure she'll come up with the perfect name. Our barn names all develope when we figure out the personalities.
Thanks - I think he's prettier than I remembered.... of course I care most about his personality and temprement. So far he seems super sweet and submissive. He has been calling his mom alot though. I don't know if I'll get her in to eat tonight or not!! Might be sandwiches in the barn :)
Pintos use the same descriptions, they are just descriptions of color placement.
They look good together:)
I'm sure she will do fine too.
Names are difficult. Good luck. It took me several weeks to name Rusty. He came with the name Spud, and I just couldn't deal with that:)

I like Stormy - wasn't there a Margurite Henry horse named Stormy - she reads all of those! I'll add it to the "list" - thanks!
There is also a lethal white combination that happens in pintos and paints, when two overos are bred.
REally, I didn't know that.
Becky
That's what I was thinking of. Thanks.
A local cowboy poet wrote a poem, Stormy Taught Me To Ride. I'll copy it for her.
Not one white hair on her. Not even a star or a sock.
Yes, my neighbor breeds paints and I have had her tell me that you don't breed Overo to Overo but I can never remember whether it's Overo or Tobiano.
Stormy Taught Me To Ride by Harold Roy Miller
There's a lot of equine folks today who want to ride the easy way. They do not like a horse that rears or has any other quirks or fears
If a horse is barn sour, bucks or kicks or has a problem that is hard to fix, instead of giving gentle correction it winds in the classified section.
At one time my feelings were the same. I always gave the horse the blame. But I got advice that was behooving- it was my riding skills that needed improving.
I bought a horse called Storm's Laced in Black. At reading riders, she had the knack. On the ground, she was a teddy bear but in the saddle, a different mare.
She'd wreck my nerve and confidence. by catapulting me over a fence; or unseat me with a little crow hop and race for home, and never stop.
If I was a little too hard on the bit she would tend to throw a little fit. All this struggle had me drained til Stormy finally got me trained.
I decided to quit running scared and started getting myself prepared. It was a period of trial and error but I finally stopped those rides of terror.
My equine skills are better all around; you'll seldom see me on the ground. And I can say with a measure of pride, "My friend Stormy taught me to ride."
And the formatting is off ????
In the post above, you see the first pregnant belly , then the "tire" shape underneath. With Sugar, you see both of these lines quite clearly, that is why it is so obvious. (sorry about lack of photo and drawing isnt much better, hard with a two year old on lap helping!)
Okay, I'm confused.
Apache "Patchy"
you have her very pregnant belly then underneath that you have this "tire" shape bulge.
He is beautiful! Our white horse has one circle of brown on one side of her belly (low) and that is all. I can see why you called him Patchy!~
