Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I guess I meant, you're posting early:)
Sorry about deaconjims back.
Becky
I sure wish we could! Sorry he hurt his back... I hope he feels better soon. Glad you are having fun with the foal, still eager for pictures, whenever they come!
Thanks.
About the photos, they have been taken and I am just awaiting a chance to get to town! My camera was dropped, so the part that you plug for the pc doesnt work and i have to take the card to cvs.
I normally have Friday to go do the groceries as a sitter comes in, but i dont know if she can make it this week and Mama cannot be left alone.
James is trying to walk around and i am trying to keep out of his way! LOL
Adge now has the middle field with Misty and is making full use of it! I am so grateful for this warm weather now.
Foals are fun to watch when they are playing. Sometimes I wonder "now, did she mean to take off, or did her legs just start?" :) One time Dot was running and slipped and fell making a turn and skidded for some distance on the ground. The expression on her face was hilarious. Kind of subdued her...at least for a few minutes:)
It takes them a while to get all those long legs working as a team.
Becky
I am glad for your good weather and that they are doing well.
Is your card a regular flash card? about an inch square? You can buy a flash card reader that plugs into your computer to be able to read the card at home, without having to go out. - I think they are around $10 for a basic one.
When that paint mare had the foal you've seen in my pics, Bob and Kay had New Zealand fencing, the really heavy gauge smooth wire, pulled very tight. We were moving mom and babe into the large pasture for the first time, and I don't think she could see real well yet. She was running along side mom, who was running for the open gate. Babe along side her didn't head for the gate, she ran strait into the wire on the other side of it. Well, that heavy wire didn't cut her, but it sprang her backwards a little like a slingshot, and she went a$$ over teakettle. She sat there a long time, still not sure what she ran into, or what happened. Some kind of invisible barrier. You could see the thoughts and doubts buzzing around her head, like stars and question marks in cartoons ;~D
Good Morning everyone from the Silver State.
We need to change our state motto from the Silver State to the White State. It's 29 degrees and snowing AGAIN.
Have I mentioned I hate winter? :)
Really? You hate winter? I didn't know that! ;~D
It's a little silvery here. Heavy frost on the pasture and frozen water buckets this morning, but no snow here... none of that damnable winter wonderland stuff ;~D 27 degrees.
its a little warm here, currently edging to the 70s. Phew! :D
about that flash card reader.................sounds good! Where can you get them? (mine is a Kodak inch sq thing)
Take it with you and go to office depot if you aren't sure. You could also get one online... just make sure it is the same kind of card, and browse for the inexpensive ones. You don't need anything fancy.
thanks, I'll look around when i get to town, probably friday..........I hope!
Awfully slow here today:). Slow everywhere I came home early. Nothing going on in town.
Becky
Slow in here... but I've been posting like crazy on other threads, some worthy, some fun, and some not!
Interesting article, and posts on the having/nothaving kids thread:)
I think it's 30 minute nap time here:)
Becky
I was busy on that thread, and I don't even ~really~ have a chip on my shoulder either way about it! - I don't think!
I haven't even had time to process the really weird call I got about Homer-dog. From the ad in the paper. The caller was just so strange!
She said she lost a labrador. From the caller ID, I could see she was calling from the Holly Hotel, which is our one-step from homeless seedy hotel in town.
I described the dog, and she said something about how hers didn't have that much white on him, but that her daughter likes to dye him different colors, which she thinks is fine as long as he doesn't come out brown. the lady thought it better for her to dye the dog than color her own hair for amusement. I asked her what the dog's name was and for her to call out to him on speakerphone, and she was embarrassed to say his name was "N[grave racial insult]".
The woman was really weird, but I told her where I lived so she could come tomorrow and see if it's her dog. I told her I didn't think it was. He didn't react to the name, and he doesn't look like he's been dyed black by some girl. I've given him two baths.
I am really creeped about the whole exchange, and we've decided to keep the dog inside tomorrow if she shows up, to say someone else already recognized him from the flyer at the store and picked up the dog, so it must not have been hers.
That does sound strange. I don't think I'd want that women to come to my house either, or have the dog. Doesn't sound like she needs one.
Becky
I wish I wouldn't have told her where we were and where we found him... I didn't know how weird it was going to get.
Interesting if she even shows up. You know if it was my dog, and I was really concerned, I'd have come today...don't you think?
Becky
