Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks Beaker, my mare with foal and also my pregnant mare are both getting 3 flakes now and also the mare and foal feed.
Our horse Misty is doing good now, no sign of any problems and eating/drinking and "going" just fine. No sign of colic.

This law definately has teeth, and is what protects establishments from liability. It would also be a good idea to have your riders sign release forms with the law stated on it as it applies to the state that you're in. That WILL protect you.

That WILL protect you.

It "should" protect you. It doesn't mean tho that someone won't try to push it, and tie you up in court and cost you a lawyer, and that you won't land up with a namby pamby liberal judge that falls for it. Believe me, it can happen, and there are people who will try.

Pictures from today: He was really fighting me about going in straight line across the end of the arena, That's my fault, I never thought about it. He wants to go more oval, cut the corners off. He needs lots of slow work on that:

Well I took a break and I'm still tired so I think I'm going to pack it up here and go home. I wanted to put 10 hr days in this week since I'll be off friday but that doesn't seem important now. This girl picks up really fast but it's hard to stop and teach everything you do when some things are just so rote that you don't think about it.

Becky, Rusty also is a much different color in winter... he gets darker doesn't he? He only looks like he is unsettled and arguing with you in the first pic, but there does seem to be less joy in this ride today than yesterday... the lack of sun today really rained on your spirits you think?

FIAB, thanks for the trail ride pics... Those caves are fabulous! I've never seen such a thing as caves you can just ride into.


Helmets again eh? Nope... haven't worn one in a long time, and don't often worry about my head... I've tweaked a knee (the time my foot stuck and got yanked by the stirrup), my ankle swelled up a bit when my horse fell on it, and I have broken my arm falling, but never had a bump to my noggin. If I did fast work again, like jumping, I'd likely wear it again because it's customary. Unusual to see them on trail except on kids, I think because people feel like they aren't at much risk. Very common to see them on jumpers.

I just woke up, if you can believe that laziness... ecurbh and I watched an afternoon movie and I conked out ;~D
