No, I didn't get a horse until just before I left and she was a baby.
Those are some wonderful pictures. I'm glad that you had such a good ride. It's always fantastic when everything just goes really well. My trainer is going to kick my butt when I finally get back on. I haven't ridden in three weeks. :-/
LOL, yeah 5AM. That's almost a sin isn't it:) Especially to hear a car horn blasting!

I always ride with one. Just my personal preference. I've seen several people knocked silly when their horse fell, plus I would've gotten scalped by a snag on a low-hanging branch once if it hadn't been for my helmet. I'm the only one in my group that does, but they don't give me grief about it.
LOL:)
UUUMMMMM, no I don't.
That's one of those subjects that get controversial, in a nice way tho, of course:)
Becky
CRT sounds like so much fun!
And no, you wouldn't get a big DA:) writting on your cards. At least in my region, the people, and judges have been the nicest people I've been around. That's mostly what makes it so fun.

Better then se....ummm well you know:)

Hey I actually almost mounted a horse backwards once. I was in a rush and not thinking and I was half way up before I though "wait a second" .... no. lol.
Back from riding Rusty. He really needs alot of work on those straight lines and nice turns. But he seemed off. Very stumbly. Out on the trail I even thought he might be favoring his left hind foot. I'm way off on shoeing, his feet are pretty long and two shoes are a bit crooked that may be all it is. But I did call the farrier. I finally remembered.
Mack did take some pictures, I haven't looked at them yet, but will post them shortly, no matter how they look.
Mack did say he thinks I should just keep both him and Harley ~big big grin~ They just fit my needs so well...so...of course I'll probably get a call tomorrow from someone willing to pay the $8500. Not sure what I would do....
Becky
LOL, well at least you caught yourself. I had no idea I was doing it, till the lady pointed it out. Even then I got flustered and couldn't figure out what to do.
Becky
I'm back, just for a sec though......i dont wear a helmet, probably should, but its so nice to feel free and at one with the horse and nature..........(did i really say that!?)
I know that i should, as i lost a friend to a fall off a horse back in my teens...gave me nightmares for years. Thing is, she WAS wearing a helmet and the fall broke her neck not her head.
I guess we all take risks every day with everything. We can all find reasons why we should do certain things certain ways and most of us are beyond changing!~ ;)
ummmmmm.....glad I'm not the only one! LOL
I use one but IMO you have to wear them right or it's worse than without one. I'm one of the few that do wear one around here. I was trained with it so it doesn't bother me.
I'm sure helmets have saved lives. No doubt, but it's not the cure all. I have no problem with the people who wear them, I never try to talk them out of wearing it. I just don't want horror stories throwed at me of injuries that happened to people without them, by people trying to talk me into wearing them. I'm an adult and have made my choice. I know the risks and accept them.
I ride motorcycle too, and don't wear a helmet. And I don't wear a helmet riding a bicycle. And I've had people fuss at me for those two also. I think now I've just gotten stubborn on the issue:)
I have a feeling because of liability insurance, that NATRC will eventually pass a rule that helmets are mandatory. It is already for those under 18.
Cindy: and speaking of liability insurance, about the riding club you are trying to get organized. I think it is great, but you need to look into that aspect of it too. I ran the Bixby Round Up Club. The Bixby arena is on City property, and the City made us carry liability insurance. It was about $1200 dollars a year for a $1,000,000 policy which was required. You really should look into that part of it. With people the way they are, it's almost a necessity.
Since you are going to be one of the ones organizing it, you could be held responsible for some loon that gets hurt, and blames everyone but themselves.

I'll talk to the owner tomorrow but I got the feeling she was thinking boarders and her place right now.
Adults should be able to make their own decisions. In my case though, I don't even realize I have it on.
The horses that I used to care for got two flakes twice a day, and pregnent and nursing mares got three. But sometimes the rule is better to give too little than too much as far as grain goes if your unsure.
I don't know if they have those sort of laws. I know at Bixby we had signs posted all over about Not being responsible for injuries or stolen stuff. But that doesn't necessarily keep people from sueing.
We had a bull rider get killed in the bucking shoots once at a rodeo. At rodeos with rough stock you are required to have an ambulance on the scene. We did. The familiy of the kid still tried sueing, saying that the paramedics there didn't do what they should, didn't have the proper equipment. The fact is tho, there was nothing they could have done, even if they had had a whole trauma team there. Only God could have fixed that boy. I mean his brains were all over the shoot.
People now a days just want to sue. That is alot of reason why around here anyway, that alot of organizations either go under or don't even get off the ground. Too scared to have events, and can't afford the insurance.
I don't mean to rain on your parade really. I think those groups are alot of fun. And wish it wasn't like that. But there it is.
Becky
