Won't dispute what you say about Ruth...but he came by his records honestly.

Ballplayers shouldn't be idolized anyway.

I think the Babe has gotten a bad rap. Once he got past 30, married and with a kid, he wasn't the wild man he's painted.

Also, even in his younger days, the Babe drank, smoked cigars, and enjoyed the ladies - but he was not getting drunk every night and if you look at him, say prior to 1930, he was not a big bellied slob.

He never lifted a weight or jogged, but after his injury in the mid 20's he did go to the Gym and work out in the off-season. Of course, by our standards it wasn't much and was very unscientific.
