That's strange - I once tried giving my kitten a piece of BBQ pork (Chinese-style; make your own joke here). She wouldn't eat it - licked the sweet sauce off, and then batted it around for ages until my dog ran out of patience and stole it.
OTOH, it wasn't in her bowl, and she won't take treats unless I put them in her food bowl - not from my hand, not from the floor. (She will steal food from my plate if I'm not careful, though.)
Cats are weird.

Your cat probably isn't a cannibal.
That's kind of how we found out they liked ham. They were not the type of cats to jump onto the counter. One day an open package of ham lunchmeat was there during lunch time. One of the cats jumped up onto the counter and started to eat the ham. I was like 'woah'. Took the ham and tore it up and put it in their dishes and they all scarfed it up.
I don't know why I never gave ham much thought before. Their chicken and beef cat food must not taste like the real thing since they won't eat them, but they will sit in front of the oven and wait for chicken or roast beef and gobble that right up and look at you like, 'you gonna get me some more of that, or what?'
Missed this. Most definately. You can't open any can within blocks or they come running, thinking they will get tuna water. Won't eat the tuna though. Tried it when we ran out of cat food once. Also tried sardines and that was a no go. They all seem to have their own food taste quirks.
They seem to love cheese sauces like mac and cheese sauce and fettuchini alfredo sauce. We even had one cat that loved the seasoning on dorito's.
