Is it ok to feed my cats raw bacon?

Posted on 12/24/2004 11:51:13 AM PST by little bus

One day, my cats were hungry and I didn't have anything in the house to feed them except raw bacon. They loved it! I continued to give them raw bacon each day and now it's their favorite food (they won't eat raw sausage, though). In fact, now they don't want anything else. I've tried different foods on them - vienna sausage, potted meat, canned mackerel, etc., but they want their bacon. Someone told me this might not be good for the cats, but they seem healthy. What do you think? I see cats on this sight sometimes when I surf, so maybe you know something here.

OK, let me say it another way: your chance of being infected by trichinosis by eating commercially prepared bacon is the same as being abducted by aliens from outer space...

Looks like a Calif. plate, which makes sense. In the 60's there used to be microbuses with VW bug green house and roof (with sunroof) welded on top. Now I see that SUVs have had an effect and things are now bigger than they used to seem.

"How many Greyhound Scenicruisers do you suppose would carry an axe or a bow-saw?"

Dunno, but here is a Scenicruiser I like.

I haven't bought raw bacon in years, but I surely wouldn't feed it to my beloved cats. Get your precious pets on a nutritional, well balanced dry cat food immediately. And don't worry about them not eating it....they will, when they get hungry enough.

I thought no one else but me liked Gordon Lightfoot.

He's always been special to my family. My uncle was his manager in the 1970s, and he put up the money to get my uncle started in his own business. He's a decent fella.

I had a cat once that loved pizza and potato chips. He would literally climb up right into your face and try to take them away from you.

He also had a thing about balloons and rubber bands. He would grab hold of a rubber band and back up with it. No matter how many times he got popped in the nose he would return for more.

Nope - you're not alone - tonight, while my daughter is visiting with her mom, I think I'll sit and listen to those songs - it'll be a good time for Song for a Winter Evening.

It is a California bus and I remember the VW Camper vans with the raised roof.

It was a long time ago.....

Reminds me of the time my cat Beauregard decided to lunch on the chicken I had thawing on the kitchen counter. I finally found it (and him) under a bed. After a wild-eyed cussin' chase with a broom thru the entire house, he finally ended up atop the shower curtain rod in the master bathroom, whereupon I dissolved in tears and laughter. My kids were rolling on the floor. I showed him, though. After that, I made sure never to leave food out where he could find it!

BTW, any cat owners have a good way to keep your cat from killing the neighbor's birds? They have a cat buffet (feeder) right next to the wall between us and our male kitty Romeo keeps dragging birds in and getting feathers and blood all over. He wears two bells...don't help.

lol!

But where I got it was from Dan Daly - a Marine, twice decorated with the Medal of Honor:

At Lucy li Boucage, on the outskirts of Belleau Wood France, Daly made a comment which still thunders with the Marine spirit today. Outnumbered, outgunned and pinned in a poor position, the Marines were soon to be chopped to pieces by the German Machine gunners. Daly ordered an attack, leaping forward and yelling to his men. He is purported to have said, "Come on you sons of bitches! Do you want to live forever?" Later Daly told a Marine Historian, "What I really yelled was: For Christ's sake, men-COME ON! Do you want to live forever?"

- my Dad's a Marine - and he told me about Dan when I was a little kid.

Well sure - kill them yourself - save the cat the trouble...

By all means feed your cats raw bacon; its good for business. Besides, toxoplasmosis is much more prevalent than trichinella and cats are much more likely to get toxoplasmosis than trichinosis. Pancreatitis is really good for business, the cats have to be hospitalized for several days which means a good $3-400 bill at the least. Chronic pancreatitis means we can milk the client for a lot more because the cat comes in regularly. And...after the cat has had a nice fat bacon diet for an extended period of time it will become a diabetic so we get to see the cat monthly.

One more thing Ray...quit screwing with the newbies.
