I think he might win for cinematography, or for Jim Cazaviel as actor, but probably not overall.

Why should he desire to be recognized by Hollywood? The Oscar represents their narrow worldview, and is only an earthly recognition. I don't think Gibson is even thinking about it. I admit that I could be wrong here, but I just get the impression that these types of profane, worldly honors don't rank very high on Gibson's list of priorities.

Why do you think it is important for Hollywood to recognize Mel Gibson or his film?
Hollywoodites who fought tooth and nail have not changed their mind, and what would be gained for them to 'appear' to be praising it now?

I would love to see Mel Gibson and The Passion of Christ win Oscars but it doesn't matter if they aren't even nominated because Mel has already won.

The Passion is beyond anything to do with Hollywood or their self-serving awards, glitz, and sleaze. I hope this movie receives NO mention at all, which will be very telling to the country about Hollywood Liberals and their value system.
