While My Guitar Gently Weeped was a good song, made much better by the fact that Eric "slow hand" Clapton was the lead guitarist. As often done and still done today, studio musicians, are brought in to produce a better sound. I think over the years guys like Glen Campbell performed on many studio gigs making groups like the Beach Boys sound better.

I don't know how old you are but virtually everyone who could read the Rock rags then knew this in 1968 or certainly by 1969. It's a point about the musicianship perhaps but not about Harrison's beautiful song.

Here's another news flash: the great lead guitar in Clapton's "Layla" was from Duane Allman. And "Layla," of course, was written about George Harrison's wife, Patti Boyd.
