Okay, so I'm doing my nightly FReeper thing, reading new posts, visiting the threads that I've been pinged to, etc..etc. Nothing new, I've been doing this for several years now, pretty much on a daily basis. I don't start too many threads (because frankly, nobody really wants or needs my 2 cents).
But tonight I've had it. I can't bite my tongue any more. I've got to vent.
Why are there A LOT of Freepers who insist on commenting on topics that they have no idea what the hell they're talking about?
I just got done reading the thread about the Rush Limbaugh spoof on Saturday Night Live last night vis a vis The Drudge Report Story. There were something like 70+ posts on the thread: (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1304821/posts) And it's clearly obvious that maybe three posters had actually scene the SNL sketch in question.
I love the fact that everybody is free to their opinion, but geez...why must a thread about a TV show be clogged up with self righteous after self righteous claiming that they haven't seen SNL in 20 years, or some even claiming that they don't even bother watching TV.
Good for you!! Great! I don't freakin' care if you do or not. Why are you bothering posting on a TV related thread of you're so above the mighty idiot box?
Or, for that matter, the people who claim that SNL isn't as funny now as it was when Belushi, Chase, Akroyd, or whoever was on it. Boo yah! I don't have time to participate in what was. I didn't watch SNL then, I barely watch it now.
Of the 70+ posts on the thread maybe a dozen were actually about the event in question. And those all seemed to say the same thing: The producers of that particular animated segment bashed both sides pretty evenly.
Yeah, I agree it's pretty insane that a show that has had the drug abusers and drug ODs that SNL has would poke fun at Rush's drug problem. (I actually thought the skit was pretty outdated, Rush's drug probelm was last years news.) But I understand why one of the NBC execs would be pretty outraged and that is somewhat newsworthy. (Though, it being on Drudge I wonder how newsworthy it really is.)
But that's not the first time I've seen crap like this happen... and it's happening with more and more frequency on FR. People totally out of the loop offering their opinion without knowing any of the facts.
There was a thread earlier today about California Employee's retirement system. I'm getting slammed in there because of a posters idea of what the FEDERAL retirement system is. No where that I saw did anybody start talking about the Federal... I was talking about California as that is what experience I have, and that's what the blessed article was about.
But nobody reads any more. They see a headline, they have their 2 cent opinion, and they post it.
Where's the critical thinking process at? It's lacking in the threads I'm reading. (And if it's on the threads I'm not reading, I apologize for not knowing it.)
If I didn't know better I'd think DU was sending very well disguised trolls over, just to water down everything.
Okay, I guess I'm done ranting now. Flame away, I can take it.

350 posts per week? 50 posts a day? Good lord people, don't you have lives?
50 posts a day...figure at least 3 minutes for a reasonably articulate post...that's 150 minutes -- 2.5 hours doing nothing but posting on FR.
Figure another 2 hours reading stuff to find things that warrant postings... that's 4.5 hours of Freeping.
I'm pretty much house bound because of my illness, and I couldn't even comprehend doing that much on FR. Tonight's been the most I've done in quite awhile, and I think my total time is less than 90 minutes.
I'm not sure if I should envy y'all or pity y'all.

NEWS FLASH: Islam is at war with the West -- that INCLUDES the Unites States of America.
News Flash:
Terrorists are at war with the West. That represents a slightly insignificant percentage of Islam. Not even really Islam. A corrupted version of Islam.
To equate all Muslims at war with the West would be to equate all Christians at war with the Federal Gov't based on what a few whacked out cultist/militia-types do in Montana or Texas.
My Muslim classmate in college certainly wasn't at war with anybody. Friendliest and most tolerant guy I knew.

"To equate all Muslims at war with the West would be to equate all Christians at war with the Federal Gov't based on what a few whacked out cultist/militia-types do in Montana or Texas."Brilliant analogy. If you happen to be an asylum escapee...
Btw, true -- not "all Muslims" are "at war with the West; Just the hundreds of thousands that have conspired to help convert or kill "infidels" the world over, OR blow up the world...Oh, but you didn't get that "NEWS FLASH", Sparky??
That's alright -- just go back to bonging it, piling up the empty Pabst cans, and occassionally posting an inane vanity.
Eventually you'll squint between hits at some thread concerning a Muslim threat to the world.

Personally, I think Jim should let us add to each other's replies. Then I could scroll through every thread adding "This poster is full of caca" in front of everyone's replies, saving everyone else the trouble of reading it.[Petronski giggles so profusely, he cannot breathe.]

Lol, and still, a "thread about nothing" approached 150 posts.
I shall start the bidding on birbear's originally over-inflated opinion at 1/100 cent -- the face value of a supermarket coupon....

When Freepers go to a post about Saturday Night Live, they are going there for the entertainment value of it. This is when they can lighten up a little from the heavy threads like, "Iraq security forces seize rockets smuggled from abroad, Allawi says." My favorite light humor one was "Parachuting Guinea Pig Prankster Caught." You should read that post. It will give you an idea of how wound up people are getting these days. I hope the Free Republic will always be a place where people can unwind their thoughts and get a new perspective on things.

Just sound a bit psychotic as you demand people listen to your "two cents" worth of rant ;-)
