Good for you for re-homing an adult cat. There are so many out there that need loving homes, and they always come in second when there are kittens to choose from. Whatever cat you pick, I'm sure it will love you unconditionally.
One piece of advice I'd give is to spend a lot of time with the cat before you bring it home. Most shelters have rooms for pets and owners to get acquainted. Every cat has a unique personality so its best to know what you're getting before you take it home and wonder why it doesn't like you. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Both Jaimie and Whitney are nice.
Me, I'd like to have Tom Thumb. I'd just love to have him laying around all the time.

cats have the dirtiest mouths next to monitor lizards. Filthy animals that produce no saliva so bacteria grow in their mouths.

I've had several adopted cats. My technique for getting a good one is to pick them up. I don't like cats that squirm or fight being held. If they like being picked up, then I see if they mind having their paws handled. A cat that likes being picked up and handled this way without getting upset will be a gentle and affectionate pet.
