Ain't It Cool News accounts of BNAT6 (rundown of upcoming theatrical releases)

I attended BNAT3 but did not try to make this one (thousands compete for barely 150 seats). The flavor of the festival has been forever changed by the 3 screenings of Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings movies (BNAT3, BNAT4, and BNAT5 respectively, with Mr. Jackson himself attending last year).

This year they added slideshows and short clips from other films. It has become that much less of a film festival (celebrating films old and new) and is a step closer to the film previews seen at larger conventions (albeit I was glad to see more revivals listed and fewer "Big Christmas films" getting premiered).

Here's a rundown of what was screened this year:
---------------------------------------------------

1 (revival) "Willie McBean and His Magic Machine" (1965)

2 (premiere) "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" (2004)

3 (revival) "The Black Swan" (1942)

4 (revival) "Blonde Venus" (1932)

5 (revival) "Miss Sadie Thompson" (1953) (Rita Hayworth in 3-D)

6 (premiere) "Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera" (2004)

7 (revival) "The Mutations" (1973)

8 (revival) "Toys are NOT For Children" (1972)

9 (premiere) "LayerCake" (2004)

10 (premiere) "ONG BAK" (2003)

11 (premiere) "Kung Fu Hustle" (2004)

---------------------------------------------

Slideshows included The Chronicles Of Narnia/Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe

A 24+ hour film festival (hence, the numb butt).

Last year's festival had Return of the King AND The Passion, with both directors in attendence (quite a coup for someone who coordinates the festival to celebrate his birthday in Austin).

Last year's thread:

I heard Pete Jackson has promised to bring along KING KONG to BNAT 7.

That may be true if King Kong is supposed to get a Christmas release (BNAT is early December).

Wouldn't surprise me.

The only person in the world who's a bigger fan of the original King Kong than Peter Jackson is Harry Knowles. And Jackson knows it.
