As a long-time conservative, a Viet Nam veteran, lifetime Christian, and as someone with an inquisitive mind, I need to understand why George Bush was chosen to carry the banner of Conservatism?
"For me, conservatism has focused on two primary goals: fiscal responsibility and limited federal involvement in our lives."
Just for starters, you have a misunderstanding of conservatism. Conservatism attempts to conserve the principles of the founding of the country. These are best annunciated in the Declaration of Independence. Republican Abraham Lincoln was this countries best articulator of those principles. Go to www.claremont.org and order Harry Jaffa's "New Birth of Freedom" and read it cover to cover.
So did my Seahawks!!!
For the record, McCain's grueling years in the Hanoi Hilton made him a popular hero and no doubt earned him many military decorations. However, simply enduring this form of living hell does not make him a military expert, nor does it qualify him to be President of the United States. The United States needs a leader and thankfully we have one in George W. Bush.
Someone who wasn't a troll would respond to the questions given you.
Sorry, I can't hear you.
I am listening to CHRISTMAS music.
Interesting. Why secular?
I won't label you a troll or anything because I don't know you. However, I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question except to say that I do not believe McCain is a good representative for conservatives, and I do question John Kerry's record in Vietnam, especially after the fact that he completely deginerated fellow veterans of the war. It's pretty nasty what he did, if you ask me. As for the abortion thing, I do know the government's job is to uphold the law in a way that defends the rights of all people in our country, including children who have not yet left their mother's bodies. I do not view this as a religious issue, as I myself am not a very religious person. I view it as a human rights issue, and I do support the idea of the federal government banning it in most cases, except where there's danger that the mother and child could both lose their lives in the event of birth. Then again, there's the issue of states deciding their own murder laws. In either case, it won't hurt my feelings to see state governments or the federal government classify abortion as 1st degree murder. It's a problem that needs to be addressed, and at this point I don't care whether it happens on the state of federal levels.
I can also see your concern about the FMA infringing on state's rights to decide the gay "marriage" issue for themselves. I'd be all for it if I weren't concerned that the Supreme Court could overturn all state laws banning gay "marriage", like the way it basically legalized abortion nationwide in Roe v. Wade. Also, I will disagree with you on Clinton balancing the budget. I know conservatives and liberals both have very conflicting stories on the state of the economy under Clinton's policies, and I side with the conservative side. I know this does not answer your question about Bush, but it's the best answer I know how to give. It is a good question though, and people on here should not be so quick to condemn you for it. I did vote for Bush though, and there are things I like and dislike about him. Overall, I do believe he's a good President. As for those of you who call Mind_of_Adam_Smith a troll, either answer the damn question or don't post, instead of acting like childish DUers.
You think that smarmy gun-grabbing RHINO is a Conservative? I'm embarrassed for you.
"As a long-time conservative"
And right off the bat you read from the DU troll script.
Mind_of_Adam_Smith since December 10 2004.
He lied in his statement. Is that okay with you?
Tell us what your take on the reasons are and we can talk.
George W. Bush is a leader and a decent man. As far as ideology, I don't agree with him on everything but he's closer to my beliefs on social and economic matters than anyone else out there.
Does that answer your question?
You're no conservative if your first choice was John McCain, therefore, your silly vanity is merely a slam
at President Bush.
My service ribbon is worth FAR more than Kerry's FRAUDULENT medals.
Oh, and he posted this thirty minutes ago and hasn't responded once.
Hes a troll.
I reckon you missed that 1971 congessional testimony where John Kerry called all Vietnam vets murderers, rapists and war criminals.
Where'd he lie? I don't know if he's actually a war vet or not, or if he's a troll just trying to make people mad. He just sounds like a misled Libertarian in my opinion. I thought it was a decent question and tried to answer it. Even if a liberal troll came on here and asked a serious question, I'd say answer it.
Your entire post is so disingenious that even a fool can see you are disingenuous.
John McCain is more conservative that GWB? Are you really this daft?
