When Clinton was president the cops shot some guy a block or so from the White House. He had a knife and appeared to be standing there about 8 feet from the cop. Of course, the cop shot him in the chest instead of the knee or shoulder, killing him.
He was just standing there.

Cop probably didn't get the memo that knives don't shoot.
If you're going to shoot someone, you shoot to the center mass.
If you shoot at a slim target you have a high likelihood of missing and having a round hit someone who was not an intended target.
Moreover, if you shoot to just wound someone who is armed, a wounded person can still be deadly.
Everytime such an incident is posted on FR, however, someone always asks the ridiculous question: "Why didn't the cop just shoot him in the leg/arm/earlobe/pinky?"
