'McEnroe' Canceled by CNBC After Four Months
By Paul Gough
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - CNBC said Friday it canceled its heavily promoted talk show "McEnroe," which occasionally registered a zero rating.
The show, which debuted on the business channel in July, marked tennis great John McEnroe's first foray into the talk arena. But his fans did not follow: A few times it garnered a 0.0 rating in households, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Two months ago, CNBC pledged to keep the faith after a change of executive producers. But the ratings didn't come.
A memo sent to CNBC employees Friday by primetime chief Bob Meyers said nothing about the bad ratings.
"John and the show consistently had top guests and people from all over the world waiting on line to be part of our in-studio audience," Meyers said.
"McEnroe" will be seen in originals and repeats until the end of the year. It will be replaced by "The Big Idea" with ad exec Donny Deutsch, a show that will go from a once-a-week airing to five days a week beginning sometime in late January.
McEnroe had a tv show?
If not for Free Republic, I would have never known that.
Wow, he had a show...
Replacing one leftist with Donny Deutsch, another liberal loser. Apparently MSNBC hasn't learned their lesson with McEnroe.
My question too.
All I want to know is where do I get one of those hats???
I guess even his relatives quit watching...
I can't believe it took this long. I would have assumed it'd have faded away into oblivion months ago.
You cannot be serious. YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!
(somebody had to say it)
Maybe they should try Rush Limbaugh
Game, set, match
A few months ago our cable company switched up a bunch of channels (I think in a conspiracy to lower FOX News viewership because they put FOX on a channel that previously had no station on it), and since they did that I don't even know where CNBC is. I've never seen McEnroe's show.
McEnroe was just terrible, really quite unwatchable.
A few weeks ago I was working in Times Square. There was a guy and a girl on the street corner giving away free tickets. This is a common practice in the area. They were saying, "Free tickets to an NBC talkshow!" Only after a person said they were interested did they tell them it was for McEnroe's show. Let's just say they were having a hard time giving the tickets away.
How 'come nobody watched your hip, progressive, funny show with all those hip, progressive funny people like "Sting"? Could it be that you make Al Gore look like George Clinton?
Hey, "If Dennis Miller can do it, I can do it better!" you thought. Wrong! HAHAHA
You were a virtural black hole of ratings! HA!
Who convinced you that you could do that? I know, you are always at hip, progressive parties and you're like so "in the groove" making people laugh and think about pressing social issues of the day. And that one hostess says "You should have your own TV show you're so funny, suave, witty and hip!" HAH HAH HAH
You know what I think went wrong? You just didn't connect with the beta female side of your viewing audience. Try harder next time! HAHAHHAHAHA!
