Lisa, when someone says....'Don't quit your day job'.... this is commonly known as a joke.... and almost always taken in that vein by those who have the perception and intelligence to appreciate a good joke .....

..but any reference to someone's appearance which is implied in cruel words....is not funny.

My personal peeve are people who say.... "What's the matter with you, can't you take a joke"....when, in truth, it is nothing funny, but something usually malicious or cruel.

To me "Don't quit your day job." is commonly used to tell someone they have no ability or talent....that their creation is a failure. It is in my view a nasty put down.

But you have a differing opinion and I will gladly adopt your view on what is funny and what is a put down.

You view of what is a joke allows me to quote you a line I used a few times in Vegas. Occasionally there would be a female heckler when I was playing the Golden Nugget Lounge.I would stop the band, Point to the offending female.. and say...

Trying to be a commedian... Huh??? !!!! pause

Don't quit your night job?

It always broke up the room. I'm sure you would find it equally as funny if I said it to you...
