Stripped of Ivana (Finally, Someone Too Tacky for Donald Trump)
The Edmonton Sun ^ | 12/3/04 | Steve Tilley

There are a lot of important life lessons that can be learned from NBC's 'The Apprentice.'

Things like 'passion and desire are key components to sucess' and 'you should never underestimate a competitor' and 'if youre a woman, you can get pretty much get anything you want by acting like a complete whore.'

One thing you cannot get by acting like a whore, though, is respect, and Ivana Ma, a 28 year old 'venture capitalist' from Boston found that out the hard way on last night's episode.

Dont get me wrong, I was as happy as the next guy to see Jennifer and Sandy dressed like a pair of streetwalkers, and happier still to watch Ivana take off her skirt and reveal her skimpy panties.

But it also made me a bit sad. I know, can you believe it? Disappointed by cheap sexual shenanigans that demean an entire gender? I think I must have the fever.

Sandy and Jennifer of the Mosaic team tried a slightly different tatic selling their candy bars on Wall Street in that they dressed like the 'M&M Sisters' which is apparently the new slang term for 'pair of bleached blond sluts who are almost too old to even make this look work.'

And work it they did, by traveling around in a van and preying upon groups of horny construction workers who eagerly bought the bars for $5.00 on the chance that Jen might drop their change and have to bend over and retrieve it.

When Ivana realized what the Mosaic strumpets were doing, her solution was naturally, was to offer to take off her skirt for anyone who paid $20.00 for the chocolate bar. Oh, the savage irony. Two minutes earlier she was saying Jen and Sandy looked like 'strippers from a cheap beer dive in Texas, with peanut shells on the floor.'

Then suddenly, she's flashing her snug fitting girlie panties for all the world to see, in a bid to out trollop the trollops.

When she realized that the long knives were out for her, Ivana finally came to life in the boardroom and had the gall to suggest that the hypereducated Kevin as 'not as smart as her,' and got a verbal spanking from Trump's underling Carolyn for being disrespectful to the Donald.

Ivana backpedaled and backpedaled and did just about everything else aside from dropping her skirt again, but it was to no avail: Trump axed her like a teenaged victim in a horror flick.

Unfortunately, the structure of The Apprentice doesn't allow the player to "regroup for another day" unless the PM is willing to blame one of their group for the loss. Trump left the door open for her to attack Kevin on pricing (and I think George wanted her to do that) but she didn't. If you don't want to be fired as the losing PM, you need to pick someone else to blame so they will get fired. Ivana couldn't accept that Jen wasn't an option and she wasn't willing to offer up one of the other two as a sacrifice.

I never watch that show, but I did pause on it while surfing and watched Ivana try and talk her way out of the situation. She was incredibly disrespectful and aggressive toward Donald. I thought Carolyn was going to come out of her chair and slap her.

Ivana has serious trouble controlling her emotions. In an earlier episode, she talked about wrecking the Porche her parents gave her as a teenager. Make of that what you will.

the Porche her parents gave her as a teenager

I think we might have just hit on the problem.

That's the problem, Carolyn is shouting down people and not letting them have their say. Lousy management style in my opinion.

This doesn't change the fact that women should be banned from the workplace.

. . . happier still to watch Ivana take off her skirt and reveal her skimpy panties.

On FoxNews today, Ivana said they were short-shorts.

I've never watched the show and won't until the Donald gets rid of that croissant growing out of his head.

You must be watching a different show. I've never heard Carolyn shout at anyone.

Ivana was interesting TV but a joke as a corporate exec. She seemed to think this was survivor and not a job interview. Even in TAXI interview at the end she spent all her time bad mouthing everyone.

Kelley will not win. They need a minority or a female and Kelley is too bland too overcome the handicap of being a WM.

Did you miss the "Well, then fix it!" statement from ol' Carolyn. Plus getting herself a new hairdo and makeup hasn't helped her any. She's still a "yes" woman to a guy who is losing money in a casino business, for heaven sakes!

You must live in Wisconsin. When I lived there, that was the consensus of all males I encountered.

Well, do work for someone?

If so, would you go on national TV and show him up or disagree with him all the time. Her job is to observe, give The Donald advice, and put in her two cents every once in a while.

She's not there to argue or grandstand. It's his show.

Have you ever bought a candy bar for $20.00?

Did you not see the show? These were not "a candy" bars. These were hand selected, after hours of pre-selecting a SMALL run that might, possibly be fit for inspection. And then a good portion of THOSE - were thrown out! These were treated as if they were proof sets at the mint. This was not a production run. Don't you remember?

I doubt Carolyn would ever actually shout anyone down in managing a golf course. It does make for great TV, though..

I was thinking Ivana might have been planning this ahead of time, who wears boy style 'underoos' to work everyday?

But, if she knew she was going to pull this little stunt-then she could have planned ahead to minimize her exposure on TV..

As someone else said, the very premise of the show is a little - fuzzy.

The very premise of the show is to feed Trump's ego and get Trump publicity while making money for Trump. The contestants are merely stage props.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Trump gets what he wants, the stage props get their 15 minutes of fame, Carolyn gets to write a book that sells and we get entertainment.

If any contestant winner stays in the Trump organization after their first year on the "job" they won, it will be in the role of a publicity novelty with Trump playing the part of the organ grinder.

Let's just call it a draw.

Look, as Ivana would say - I just think you're wrong. I agree with the others, here. The show has a very flimsy and incredible premise. Take a guy who ran a retail cigar website and have him build an 80 story skyscraper in downtown Chicago. Well, the guy has NO experience in construction, none as a general contractor, none as a financier, etc. Yet the building is being built, nonetheless. How is that possible. Is the man a figurehead?

And if so - why? To what purpose. Again, I agree with others who also suggest that the show is merely a promotional vehicle both for the 'Trumpname' and for those like Mars and Pepsi which are attempting to hype their own products. The apprentices, so-called, are merely backdrop; extras in their own show. If in order to promote Denver-mint quality candy bars, never to be seen again, they have to send these Harvawd MBA's out into the street to hustle the bars, one by one, then they'll do just that. If it makes 'em drop 'trou', then so much the better for the ratings - correct? The show is misnamed. They're clowns in Trump's circus.
