Gardner told this story and others to radio stations and he wrote a piece for the local paper. Then, he says, he received a phone call from John Hurley, the veterans organizer for Kerry's campaign. Hurley, Gardner says, asked him to come out for Kerry. He told Hurley to leave him alone and that he'd never be for Kerry. It was then Gardner says, he was threatened with, "You better watch your step. We can look into your finances." Next, Gardner said he received a call from Douglas Brinkley, the author of Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War. Brinkley told Gardner he was calling only to "fact check" the book -- which was already in print. "I told him that the guy in the book is not the same guy I served with. I told him Kerry was a coward.

There are some things money can't buy. Self respect and character come to mind. Gardner has those 2 qualities in spades, and we, the people of the US, are in his debt. First for serving our nation 35 years ago in SE Asia, and again for helping prevent the unmitigated disaster that a Kerry administration would have been.

But it is very disappointing that 8 other veterans chose to take money in exchange for their honor and self respect. I have to wonder if those men do not sometimes wake up in the middle of the night disgusted by the realization of what they have allowed themselves to become, i.e., bought and paid for liars.

I only hope that at least a few of them have enough decency left to now admit what they did, and publicly expose the fraudulent "war hero" Kerry and his billionaire backers for the despicable human debris they actually are.

While those basal eight still have a breath in them there's a hope they could redeem themselves of this calumny. By admitting the deed, apologizing and doing what they can do recitify it. Give Steve back his good name in those many quarters they slandered it.

Travis was one of the first if not the first Freeper to post that he felt the Swift Vets for Kerry had been bought off. I will not label that "Heinzed/Kerryed".

The major role he had in defeating Kerry He was the only SBV on Kerry's boat who could NOT be bought off by Kerry and Teresa - showing outstanding character and integrity. Sources tell me that Kerry's former shipmates who went "Kerry" were given as much as a million each in offshore accounts. Moveon.org could have easily paid that amount themselves, not to mention the vast amount of other resources Kerry has at his disposal.

Well, it turns out he more or less reiterated what he was talking about yesterday, which was how badly he was treated at work after he "outted" sKerry. Tony asked him if he was offered another job with his company, and he said yes, but it was like a "contract" employee and he would have been paying all of his expenses. It was just a way to get rid of him. Tony also asked him if he has had a lot of support after being on TV lately, and Steve said that it has been overwhelming (a lot of it coming from FReepers, I'll bet my words) He also said he intends to e-mail everyone who has supported him to express his appreciation.
