The University of Notre Dame announced Tuesday that Tyrone Willingham will not be retained as its head football coach, according to the school's Web site.
Willingham's teams were 21-15 overall in his three seasons as Irish head coach.
A 4 p.m. news conference is expected.
With Willingham out -- and after the recent firing of New Mexico State's Tony Samuel and resignation of Fitz Hill from San Jose State -- there are now only two black head coaches in Division I-A: Karl Dorrell at UCLA and Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State.
Notre Dame (6-5) has accepted an invitation to play in the Insight Bowl in Phoenix against a Pac-10 team on Dec. 28.
You're right though, they are victims. I think not only should they whine more, they really need to protest about how unfair scheduling things are.
It's a conspiracy... after Fitz Hill quit the awful San Jose State team...they are trying to get rid of all they black coaches
However, if you've ever seen her kick you could make the convincing argument that she can't play football at any level.
It really is hard for a college to be a powerhouse in both football and basketball. Michigan used to do it fairly well. Oklahoma is probably the best example now.
LOL.
University of Kentucky has a football team? Who knew? My alma mater is ranked in the top 10 in every football poll, by the way. :>
"our" might be a bit of a stretch. Personally, I can't stand UK. I went to a small liberal arts school, so I can safely cheer for a D-I team that isn't my alma mater . . . so with that being said, Go Cards!!! : )
