FREEPER FAMILY TABLE--Thanksgiving recap
me | The Day After...oy vey! | grellis

Posted on 11/26/2004 6:47:07 AM PST by grellis

I am going to keep it really simple today--I don't know about you folks but I am still digesting and I have relatives returning any moment. Here are a few queries...

How was your Thanksgiving?

Are all of your relatives liberal democrats?

What is your all time favorite Thanksgiving dish?

What is the worst Thanksgiving dish you have ever eaten?

Did anyone else get snow this week? 8^)

Why are you answering these silly questions when you should be out shopping?

What is the airspeed velocity of an African Swallow? European?

Can anyone lend me some Tums?

Kids and I did the Thanksgiving dinner at friends house, we've known them for a long time as the husband was one of my husband's sonar tech A school classmates. My hubby did dinner at a fellow shop workers house, they live 3 doors down from our new place in NAS Brunswick housing.

Hubby will be coming home tonight, he's got house hunting leave to help out with the move. Things are a bit chaotic as you might imagine *L* pack up/move out dates are Nov 30/Dec 1st.

Oh I almost forgot, I turned 28 the day before Thanksgiving...

It was the first year our families libs kept their traps shut about politics. Gee, I wonder why? ( 4 more years, baby!)

My family made the best thing we have ever made for thanksgiving, reservation to a upscale seafood and traditional thanksgiving buffet brunch. The turkey was safe but I put a gapping hole in the gulf coast shrimp population.

Good morning! I've just about got things cleaned up from yesterday ... just need to sweep the kitchen and dining room again. We don't have too many leftovers.

No snow here, but it was well below freezing this morning. My husband is back at work (or at least at the office) today. The rest of us may go to the library later!

Happy belated birthday!

We're planning on moving in the next 2-3 years and I am dreading it. We've never really had to move so I'm expecting the worst.

I wish I could say the same. I got to listen to "I made more money under Clinton" baloney all day long--from my brother, who was barely employed throughout all of Clinton's presidency. Delusional lib!

We heard tales of 10 inches of snow in Missouri!

BTW--

Worst Thanksgiving dish I have ever (or will ever) had...you know that green jello with cabbage in it? That's bad. That's awful, even when it is prepared correctly. Its unforgiveable when the jello is chewy, as if the dish has been hanging around in the fridge since the previous Independence Day picnic.

Cabbage-in-jello is, without a doubt, the Maureen Dowd of the culinary world.

My husband only had one day off for Thanksgiving because they're on a tight schedule to finish a bridge they're building. He drove in from Iowa on Wednesday night (a 6-hour drive to our house) and left about 2:00 p.m. yesterday driving back. I doubt if I get to see him again until Christmas because they've got to finish this bridge by January.

I was up early and cooking fast to get Thanksgiving dinner cooked and ready so he could get out of here and back to Iowa. I did a turkey, 2 types of cornbread dressing (oyster and plain), caramelized sweet potatoes by my great-grandmother's recipe, veggie and relish platter and pumpkin pies. Whew! I'm pooped still yet! :) And, yes, I have a few leftovers but the kids have been making a steady dent in them since last evening. :)

We always celebrate the holidays alone because I usually work most holidays, so I run up and down the stairs between my office and my kitchen and somehow manage to be productive in both places! :) Anyway, my family is a 3-hour drive away and his family is a 12-hour drive away.

I always cook a big holiday meal because I love to cook and also to sort of make up for the fact that we're not able to spend the holiday with our extended families.

It was such a nice treat to see my husband. We weren't sure he'd get to make it home because the forecast was for 4 to 8 inches of snow here in our part of Missouri. Luckily, we only got about an inch instead, but he did have to drive through Kansas City, which got about 5 inches, and there was quite a bit of black ice on the roads up there. It took him 7 hours to drive down here instead of the usual 6, pulling in about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night. P.S., Wednesday was our 15th anniversary so it was extra-important that he come home! :)

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Time to get back to work!

How was your Thanksgiving?  Yummy!!!!  Ate at my mom's with one of my brother's families, mom, dad and my grandma who flew in from Pennsylvania.  It was really great to all be together.  The other brother and family come in tonight.  It should be a zoo!  LOL!!

Are all of your relatives liberal democrats?  None of them, thank God!

What is your all time favorite Thanksgiving dish?  Hmmmm....  I think it's gotta be stuffing.

What is the worst Thanksgiving dish you have ever eaten?   I don't like sweet potatoes at ALL!

Did anyone else get snow this week? 8^)  YES!!  About 2 inches on Wednesday.  The kids were ecstatic!!

Why are you answering these silly questions when you should be out shopping?  Yes, but hubby had to work this morning, so I'm stuck at home.  That or brave the mobs with 4 kids in tow.  So you wee why I'm staying home!  LOL!!

What is the airspeed velocity of an African Swallow? European?  I don't know, but it'll be dead soon!

Can anyone lend me some Tums?  As a recently pregnant wonam, you'd think I'd have them laying around, but I'll have to say, get your own box!  LOL!!!

That's something else I forgot: the weather. Friggin 65 degrees and partly cloudy. *scoffs* I miss the snow (course where we're moving we'll get more snow than we'll know what to do with *L*)

Oh and our friends sent us home with a WalMart bag stuffed to the brim with leftover filled ziplock containers. We're set for the next few days I'd wager.

Thanksgiving was terrific........just the 3 of us so no worry about any libs at the table!!!!

I don't know what my all time favorite is, but the worst to me is candied yams......blech. after having to deal with them as a kid, I didn't eat sweet potatoes or yams again until I was nearly 30.

No snow in these parts, in fact the sun was shining and it was 73 around noon yesterday..........by 2 the clouds came in and it rained. We had to light a fire last night because the bottom fell out of the temperature. It's only 43 now.

I'm answering silly questions because I do not shop on Black Friday.

Since you know you're going to be moving in the next 2-3 years, my best advice - start packing now.

The turkey was good, but not sufficiently remarkable to be worth the cost difference. We have what seems like quite a bit of leftovers, but I doubt it will last long. I'm about to hand out the first "recycled" meal!
