Who's Cooking for Thanksgiving? (Take a break from politics)

Posted on 11/20/2004 6:03:08 PM PST by annyokie

What do you make, besides turkey? My Italian relatives made lasagna or ravioli.

I make a terrific cheesecake and the recipe is available for all who ask!

I've got an idea that it's going to be peyton manning and the colts.

FYI Don't try to cook giant pans of anything. Make many small pans and you will be a hero.

I wish someone had given me that advice years ago..........I finally had to figure it out on my own.

I figured it out on my own with everything EXCEPT lasagna, now I have even figured that out. The last time I made lasagna, the pan weighed more than 5 pounds.......there are only 3 of us!!!!

I'm always good for the incidentals like rolls, chips, soft drinks, and the like. My other relatives cook the bird.

8 inch pans are your friend. Eat one and freeze the other 3.

I have 1000's of recipes also - but just don't feel like digging into them, other than the ones that are off the top of my head!!! call me lazy tonight - because it's true. spent nearly 9 hours fighting with the computer and it's still not right.

And I think the poster was referring to the post that carlo started the other night - the post got corrected with a link a couple of posts later!

I'm making cold plates to bring to a pre-Thanksgiving church function: butter croissants stuffed with the best quality sliced roast beef and ham, two kinds of cheeses, and lettuce. With side of jello fruit salad. A separate cold plate for a dozen people. I think it will work real well.

Thanks - that's exactly what I'm planning on doing with the lasagna in the future - I do it with everything else.

For some reason I have always made it in deep 9x13 or 9x15 inch pans. I learned my lesson, and won't be doing that again!!!!

BTW - you have mail!

My son, daughter-in-law and I are flying to Illinois for Thanksgiving. We will be cooking the turkey, dressing, mashed taters and gravy and candied sweet taters at my daughter's house while Mom makes the cauliflower salad, green bean casserole, & wild blackberry cobbler at hers. Hope we can manage to converge at the same place with all that food! :)
Don't know who all will show up.

Fixing computers!

Wait - that's MY husband's job in Maryland.

Oh that's right you said Baltimore - my hubby doesn't cross the bridge for work - he stays in the RED counties of MD.

LOL!!!!

Seriously, if I still lived in Dover I'd tell you to send him to us for a homecooked meal - but now it's a bit more of a drive, I live 100 miles south of Dover, and even though there is a diagonal way to get here from Baltimore, it's still more than a 3 hour drive.

He could use some home.
He and the girls whined at each other for a while on the phone tonight. Daddy is in charge of teethbrushing and bedtime reading. They were whining until they passed out.

I know I should feel blessed that he has a job where he can support us so I can be home, but it sucks so bad that they don't appreciate him at all. On his own time he has developed two patches for Sun Systems that has allowed his company to sell to the DOD. However, he is very modest and the rest of the Ubertechs toot their own horns, constantly. He was literally screamed at by his immediate boss (3% owner of the company) when the main owner (87%) picked him to fly out there.
Last time he did one of these trips, he drove a company van 10 hours on his own vacation day to fix a problem with a major client. When he got back, the immediate boss threatened to "kick his a$$" if he ever did it again.

I said, this man needs to meet your little Sherman Tank of a Pollack wife! I'll show him a butt kicking with my size 7 shoe!

Yikes - and I thought what my husband goes through is bad........at least his out of town travel is limitted to when the company sends him to school.

Not faulting your beloved, but it sounds like he needs a bit of assertiveness training from his wife - mine finally started paying attention to what I was saying to him during some of my rants and things have been very different.

Daddy is generaly in charge of teethbrushing and bedtime reading, so I can totally relate, because he does work late some nights and isn't here - so it's made up in the morning with him in charge of dressing and school bus.

You're so sweet!
I have been trying to get him to sell himself. I think this may be his breaking point at the company.

I'm missing him but I told the girls I would sleep with them tonight. YIKES! It's one o'clock!

Off to bed Lady! G'Night!
