N.B. court returns killer bike to owner

Last Updated Fri, 19 Nov 2004 14:56:39 EST

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - A Saint John judge has ordered police to return a souped-up sport bike seized after a fatal crash, saying there's no evidence the owner knew the motorcycle would be used in a dangerous manner when he lent it to a friend.

The ruling came despite the fact that the owner, Craig Duguay, told police he had ridden the $11,000 motorbike on a highway at more than 300 km/h on at least one occasion, and friends had videotaped him doing motorcycle stunts on public roads.

On July 10, 2003, Duguay lent the bike to his friend, Ryan Ellis.

Ellis was riding the souped-up Suzuki GSXR 1000 on a highway that cuts through the city of Saint John when he clipped another motorcycle from behind.

*face in hand*
Wonder what they'd do if the guy had that neato "Tomahawk" motorcycle instead?

I also like how the motorcycle is responsible for idiotic behavior.
I shall flee immediately upon sighting the next motorcycle.
*chuckle*

(Perhaps they should have put the motorcycle down! Since it's killed a man, it may have the taste for blood!)
;-P

He'd better be careful - Some killer assault weapon might load itself with cop-killer bullets and proceed to perforate the gas tank of his killer bike.

My thoughts exactly. The owner will win a Darwin award, I'm sure. I only hope he doesn't take somebody with him.

I keep my bike, a dangerous souped up Harley, drugged and chained up in secret warehouse so it won't hurt anyone. I drop by every once in a while to throw it some raw meat and, on dark nights, when no one is around, I unchain the beast and take it out for a prowl.

d;^)

The image in my head is of a slavering rabid motorcycle with red headlights and mini intakes snarling chewing on someone at the side of the road..
I guess it's because it's Friday.

...The rider of the other bike, 42-year-old Lee Barton, was thrown 70 metres into a guard rail, dying instantly. Barton, a father of three, was on his way home from his painting job at the time.
