I had a similar problem a few years. I typically use a feather quill pen and a vintage indigo blue ink on naturally cured vellum . Because I write a lot and go through a lot of pens, I keep a duck in my office to insure that, when the need arises, I can pluck my duck and continue my writing with little interruption. Of course, as everyone knows, the best writing quills come from the rare Fulvous Tree duck.

Well, one morning as I was preparing to begin my days writing, I noticed that my beloved Fulvous Tree duck, Rusty, was gone. I was devastated. No amount of searching could turn up Rusty. I haven't written since.

Below is a picture of Rusty. If anybody has seen him, please contact me, care of the South Carolina Insane Asylum.

And, by the way, if you find douglasKC's Bic cap, just send it to me. He's in the next room. (Secretly, I think he had something to do with Rusty's disappearance.)

If you have a dead pen with a cap that fits, pirate that.

What are you doing buying BIC pens anyway? I could be wrong, but aren't they made in FRANCE?

This is an easy one. Go into your office building, or another business you have access to. Open a desk drawer, remove the top off a bic pen, grab a couple of paper clips and rubber bands, just for fun. Problem solved, and you now have a rubber band to play with.

Dougie, I am now going to use my ample knowledge and 'mom skills' to help you with this problem.

It is ok to grieve for your pen, and be in touch with your feelings of loss. Your Bic was there when you needed it...you had a bond. You wrote your feelings with that pen, you trusted it not only as a writing implement but a dental tool as well. It served you well. But it is time to let it go. Grow with this experience, Doug. Grow. Explore your horizons, reach out to your 'roller ball side.'

Don't bother to thank me Doug...I live to serve.

Drive down to Arkansas, and when you get here I will see if I can find one. I know I have one or two put away for a rainy day.

Make sure it is raining when you come.

If I am not a home, just leave a message.:-)
