"He who is the cause of another becoming powerful is ruined" Says Machiavelli in "The Prince."
While I wish Vice President Cheney a swift recovery and a quick return to presiding over a divided senate, I cannot help but think about the choice President Bush might make, should he ever be called upon to name Cheney's successor.
Since W will not have to face re-election, his choices are almost limitless.
There is the "rub their nose in it" choice, like a Bork or a Quayle.
There is the 2008 candidate like a strong Republican woman... a Condi or a Lynne Cheney or a minority choice...Watts or Steele.
In the scenario where he chooses a Senator, he can choose only from a state led by a Conservative governor...for instance-if he selects Martinez of Florida, then Jeb appoints another conservative to fill the slot.
So... what if he chooses a liberal piece of offal(from say Mass. or NY) to end their career, strengthen the Senate and keep his enemies close...
So, Freepers, pretend you are the President...who will it be and why?
Dubya should pick his father!
Better yet, his MOM!
This thread has already devolved into silliness.
That's why it's in chat on a Saturday afternoon. ...and your serious choice would be...?
Ann Coulter, if a woman. I would ask Dr. Sowell for his suggestion. Tom DeLay. Colin Powell is good, ask him what he thinks, too. Justice Thomas. Be sure to ask the Vice President what he thinks.
I remember back in the VN war two Tejanos, old Texas stock "hispanics" that I respect. A good place to look.
The CEO of Deibold. That should put the DUmmies into a frenzy.
LOL
But actually...back a few years ago, when she was "First Vice Lady" and I was more "actively active" in politics, I was invited to a 'private' luncheon (less than 20 of us) with B.Bush.
To speak with her and 'visit' up close and personal was an eye opener.
this lady is one - albeit born with silver spoon and all - one down-to-earth and brilliant, no nonsense lady. Gracious, not a hair of condescension...
She taught her son well the rules of "everyone is important, no one is above another, it's rude to be late, and "keep you feet off the table."
He has her strentgh and sense of humor...
Yeah, B.B. for VP
Oh god yes!
(My vote is for Dennis Miller for VP-- I can just see him telling Chirac where to put his Brie).
Who ever it is...they should be prepared to win the presidency in 2008.
Brit Hume.
He's conservative and he carries himself well on the only medium that matters anymore - TV.
Call Rudy....
How about Katherine Harris!
How about Newt!
Peggy Noonan fits that description...I remember Brit and Peggy describing the tackiness of the Clintons during 43's inauguration...
Peggy is nice but she can come across as someone with a really annoyingly pitiful condescension.
JC Watts is an excellent choice! But in my fantasy he'll choose ZELL and really tick everyone off!
