But, why would Lou Holtz retire (again)? - "No particular reason."

Has Holtz been fired - or will he be resigning at the end of the season?

I hope Spurrier takes the job, that way I can have the pleasure of seeing Clemson beat him every year.

I'm a Gamecock from birth and I think I speak for all of us when I say YEAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

Personally I never liked Spurrier, but I always had to give him props for being a tough competitor and a winner. It looks like he'll soon be a Gamecock and we are almost universally pleased.

But being a Gamecock means living with a century(plus) of football mediocrity. It means frustration and futility. I remember when Lou first came here six years ago, I heard from several people an almost identical sentence: "If Lou can't win here, no one can." Frankly, that worries me, because while Lou did take us to a couple of bowls and he's loved by the fans, he'll walk away with an overall losing record at USC, with a lousy record against tough SEC competition and our biggest rivals.

But Lou the Legend has always been larger than Lou the Coach. He will go down in the hearts of USC fans as the coach who got us over the top, who brought us to prominence and who made us believe we could actually get used to winning.

I guess the greatest thing one can give is hope. And Lou certainly did that. Thank you, coach. While we breathe, we hope.

You will be sorely disappointed my friend. Especially with your head coach.

You "never liked Spurrier" but you say YEAAAAHHHHH?

By the third SC game next year you'll love him, though you don't deserve him.
