(Vanity)What Would It Mean For Dean?

What would it mean if Dean was to be the chairman of the DNC? Just a vanity question of my own ignorance in politics. My thoughts are in the area of what difference it would make? With him being so liberal...would it not just take the democrats down the left path more than they already are? And wouldn't that be good for us? Or would it be better to get Bush's issues reached out to with a more moderate?

Why don't you wait and see if he gets it or not?

Is anyone else trying to get it? And my main question is what is the significance of it?

Yes. Besides Dr Dean, Clinton aide Harold Ickes, Al Gore's 'Brain' Donna Brazile, and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack have all been mentioned as candidates.

Being chair of the DNC means you are among the public faces of the party, help coordinate national fundraising, and oversee strategy in national and statewide races, among other things.

Terry McA was wonderful, he will be missed.

So having Dean there...would be a good thing or a bad thing from the republican viewpoint. See...I think in a way if he is seen as the face of the dims that America will continue to see the democrats a far left. But on the other hand if he speaks for them it will be harder to make any headway with the president's objectives. What is your view?

My view is that it pretty much doesn't matter. The average person doesn't watch the talking head shows much, where the DNC chair would appear on most consistently. The average Dem-GOP-Independent voters won't be swayed much by it - it's just fodder for political junkies.

The DNC's decisions are made by consensus, so any of the people I listed would probably be more or less comperably effective in their leadership role.

So I don't think having Dean as DNC chair is much better or much worse than having Ickes or Brazile, as a practical matter.

As far as Bush getting his stuff through the Senate, pay more attention to who becomes Minority Leader rather than who heads the DNC. It also looks like 'Ma' Pelosi isn't going anywhere in the House, so expect more of the same from her.

In other words, I don't think it matters much since the political complexion of Dean-Ickes-Brazile in particular is superficially the same. Net results have more to do with how the GOP handles itself than who is running the DNC.

Dean as head of DNC??? YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAA!!!!!
You know this guy has a loose mouth and will most certainly cause severe embarassment to the Dems as he repeatedly says what he means no matter what the consequences. For that reason, he will not be made head of the DNC. Nevertheless, GO DEAN!!
