Well, I was cleaning out my closet and the attic today and I have thrown out all of my old Bruce Springsteen albums and all my Springsteen memorabilia. It truly sucks. Because growing up as a kid, I was such a huge Springsteen fan. I went to several concerts of his and I would listen to his songs by the hour. So much that my parents wold be sick of it. But after what he did and said about President Bush this year, I can no longer listen to his music or support him in anyway. I thought about writing him a letter to tell him all this. But then I was like, he's too far left wing and too rich to care. So I gave it up.
I had three of his cd's, I traded them for a Sibelius cd at the used store a few weeks ago. A bargain.
The fact that you have tossed it out reflects the realization that what you have seen and heard wasn't really true music after all.
Pop in a Vivaldi CD some morning, crank up the volume with a couple of espressos and you might be surprised what you get done that day.
The thing to do with stuff like this is:
- sell it at a used media store
- put it on eBay
- donate it to some charity
- garage sale
Then give the proceeds to the SwiftVets or similar,
and send a message to the artist about what you did.
When artists turn their entertainment into a
political statement, I turn my entertainment
dollars into political statements.
you hit the nail on the head. I use to listen to "Born in the USA" again and again and again. Whenever I heard that song I use to feel so much pride. I use to think any man who would sing a song like that with that kind of emotion knew the value of having srong leaders like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Now this year, to find out what he really feels and to find out that he's just another left wing radical filled with hate. I can never listen to "Born in the USA" again and feel the way I use to. I hope the boss is happy with what he did. I'm sure I'm not the only one this year to learn that his music was all full of crap.
don't forget your p. diddy albums and official p. diddy brand walking stick.
You may want to leave a message on his website's bulletin board. Apparently, you are not alone.
< Rolls eyes> Don't go there. There is no such thing as "bad music," just music you don't particularly like. There were people who thought Vivaldi was a purveyor of pap, too.
Oh Tell me about it. The Boss was the biggest blow for me. But to find out that along with him in the Bush hate-fest was John Mellencamp, Bon Jovi, and REM, and Pearl Jam. All of whom I listened to so much growing up and into my early twenties. Well maybe you can take a little comfort in that for us music loving Republicans, we do have friends in Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Kid Rock, amd a whole host of country singers.
Did you tell the shop manager or owner? That might have an impact. That would work better than when I told a Radio Shack employee back in 2000 that I wouldn't be patronizing them after the company dumped their ads on Dr. Laura Schlessinger's radio program -- I had to explain to the clueless zit magnet who she was, and gave up after the second try.
I can't think of a raunchier, hoarser, nastier, 5 seconds of nasal puke sounds besides Seger and Chevy commercials. Sorry, don't mean to offend. But, believe it or not, "Leave It To Beaver" is reality. Morality matters, ask the President if you don't believe me.
But then the b*tchin' and moanin' and whining and bellyaching just went on and on and on...
And now -- millions of dollars later -- the thing that bring him more joy then anything is MORE b*tchin' and moanin' and whining and bellyaching 24/7.
Springsteen is one depressing human being.
Man, the song was taken out contest by President Reagan. It is in anti-american song. The chorus is meant to be sarcastic.
If you read the lyrics, it basically says: My country does all this real bad bad bad things too me. not my fault, don't blame. I was bored in middle America. I was a stupid kid, not my fault. I went to Vietnam. It closed the factory. I'm going nowhere in life. I was bornin the U.S.A. Yeah!
Listen to the version on TRACKS, it's more evident there.
You should have sold them on ebay and given the money to the SwiftVets for their military charities.

It was meant to be on the NEBRASKA album orginally.
Oh, but the definition of music is indeed open to interpretation. You may say that there is no bad music and I may say that there is no good wine. ;-)
Well unfrotunanlty my young and stupid youth only use to really listen to the 4 big words that were the main title of the song. I never did listen to the hidden underline message. But knowing what a jacka$$ Springsteen really is now, I wouldn't doubt it at all.
The owner is who put up the display and I didn't bother to mention it to him. The fact that he put the shirts up there was enough damage, it couldn't be repaired. He's missing my money and I'm not missing a thing, I just go elsewhere. I guess that makes me sort of passive-aggressive in this situation :)
On the same album "Glory Days" is actually a sad song about a pathetic man who never got over high school BUT if you ust listen to the catchy chorus, it's an unbeat tune.
I love the album NEBRASKA and always will. The song "Highway Patrolman" runs chills up and down my spine.
