Sorry for this thread, but I am having a LOT of trouble with my computer and I`m getting pretty bugged because I can`t afford a new one.. A few weeks a go a Freeper really helped me (after I tried to get help from Microsoft about a billion times) after I noticed some other freepers asking for computer help.
What the problem is, is I can`t boot up my computer. It takes me literally 10 to 20 times. Each time I boot I get tons of error messages. "Rundlll32.exe error" "Ps.exe error" this error that error just too may to list, and the computer either locks up or doesn`t boot at all. I even had one time were it said "fan has stopped. Bring computer to get serviced immediately" (I opened it up and there is no dust or dirt, the fan works fine)
What I have is Windows XP on a HP Pavillon 545x with 1024 memory. These problems went on a few weeks ago and a Freeper told me I had too many programs loaded and told me to uncheck everything in my startup that didn`t begin with the letters LAST and it worked! It worked great! I could boot right up after that.
Now the other day, Microsoft updated my computer without me knowing what I was doing and totally screwed it up again, and now it`s 1000 times worse! Just to write this post it took me over an hour to boot this damn thing, I tried everything. I also noticed that now in the msconfig program I now have this "services" check list. Does anyone know how I can boot up the absolute basic microsoft stuff for Windows XP? This is a nightmare. Like my original tagline said (which I will soon put back up if I can`t get this fixed) "What`s the difference between John Kerry and Windows XP? Windows XP works once in a while."
Thanks for the help
I installed SP2 on both my home and office network machines, not even a blink. SP2 install difficulties often arise from pre-existing conditions...
Glad he's dead, but now we're going to have to listen to how wonderful he was and all the bs that they are going to throw at us. I hope some network has the caljones to show the truth behind this terrorist de jur.....
Can you believe after I installed it it said "failed to initialize" This is freggin nuts, this computer is totally shot. GODDDAMN MICROSOFT!!!!! The damn thing was working great before that jackazz decided on his own to update. This is why Bill Gates is a bilionaire boys and girls, he forces and tricks people into accepting things they don`t want even when you don`t know it`s happening! Now I gotta re-boot this turd again which will probably take me another hour
We cannot have that!!!
Check your startup before rebooting....
See This thread
AVG is great isn't it? When she gets her computer running again and has AVG it will help her make a great rescue disk that is bootable.
Right.......a while back, I saw some people on FR having some trouble with the installation.......so I held off. But I just did it last week before the election and it works great; love the firewall and the popup stopper!
Pro for me, Home for the husband (har!)
Did you do it recently?
LOL!
I have Pro at work and home at home... Both seem fairly stable for me. No complaints here....
what's the difference between Pro & Home?
Not a whole heck of alot that I can tell. Some of the Windows Explorer functions differ a bit, but other than that, not much other than cost..... and Pro takes more RAM to run.
I'm on my laptop now, Spy Sweeper has found 4 more on my primary PC so far
About 5 weeks ago. In fact I had added a new HP notebook to the networks and it started downloading the SP2 pack automatically, I caught it immediately as I meter IP traffic. That was annoying, but hey it's MS so I pulled it faster than a DU troll.
Once away from the network and proceeded the SP2 upgrade - since it was a new machine I had nothing to lose. Did the rest one at time, not even a sniffle.
get Ad-Aware on that pc, too, and run it more than once a week...maybe every other day. Check for updates every time you open it!!!!
don't forget to check for critical updates and clean your cookies and temporary internet files, too.
the original poster might do well to clean everything in TEMP folders, ...
You sold me, Spy Sweeper found 24 spyware found and I just ran Spybot a week ago
Where do I get Ad Aware ?
Found and downloaded it, and I'm running it now on my primary PC
