If you have a teenage relative that plays with computer Get real, they are the ones most likely to use your computer to visit porn sites thus causing the spyware problems. ;)
From the description this person says they got updated by MS, I know a couple of people that XP service pack 2 just didn't work, they had to take it off their machine.

THANKS! I have a feeling this just may be a virus, no computer can act this nuts. You wouldn`t believe it. It`s done everything but tell me my computer is going to explode.

It's frustrating! Hang in there...write down the EXACT error you're getting and make a list of the things it does to you...then use these notes to ask some of these online experts where to start to fix the problem. Good luck!

Yes, Windows XP uses the msconfig command to open the start program menu tab. Alot of unnessary programs run in the background, like QTime, RealPlayer and others that check for updates. You can do that on your own. There are more too than just those, but the XP program has a list of required ones in their Help section. You can check that list with what is running on your system at start up.
And yes Howlin, XP picks up alot of junk too.

I would suggest that if you run system restore, do it in "Safe Mode"

I just tried to download that and once again I got the rundll32.exe error over and over but it still downloaded it. I`m installing it now. I`m going to try to reboot once I run it.

If, after following the good advice you've gotten on this thread, you still are having these problems, I have a suggestion for you.
Buy another hard drive, install it in place of your current boot drive, install WinXP on it, then hook up the first drive as a second drive (jumper it as a Slave,) and reboot. Then you should have all of your current data files, without losing them.
You'll have to re-install all your apps, but you'll have a good clean system. Then immediately download and install Zone Alarm Pro ($39.95, I think) and a good anti-virus app. Then download and install Mozilla Foxfire broswer and use it instead of Internet Explorer.
Yup, that should do it. (If all that is really beyond your comfort level, get someone to do it for you.)

Thanks, I just downloaded it. I'll run it now and see if Spybot missed anything last Friday and let you know in a few minutes :-)

They probably have. We have our computers at work updated quarterly, and the last time they were there, they suggested to hold off. But that was about a quarter of a year ago, so it probably is fine, especially since you have seen no problem. Is your anti-virus program updating correctly? If not, it probably is the SP2 firewall. Just check it.
