Vanity - Need help replying to Lib letter
e-mail

Posted on 11/05/2004 11:01:37 AM PST by WayneM

I need help in composing a reply to the following e-mail sent to me by a former co-worker who has since moved away. I started to do the job myself, but it is so full of liberal crap than I threw up my hands in disgust. I would like to take the best comments from the best minds and send back an awsome reply.

Moderator - feel free to pull this if you consider it a waste of bandwidth.

Anyway - here goes with the letter:

Sorry, I try not to deluge people with my ramblings. But I had to write this and, having written it, had to send it. Even though I don't know anyone I can send it to (without alienating my Republican in-laws, who are the only "middle country" people I know.)

I am writing this letter to the people in the red states in the middle of the country -- the people who voted for George W. Bush. I am writing this letter because I don't think we know each other.

So I'll make an introduction. I am a New Yorker who voted for John Kerry.

I used to live in California, and if I still lived there, I would vote for Kerry. I used to live in Washington, DC, and if I still lived there, I would vote for Kerry. Kerry won in all three of those regions.

Maybe you want to know more about me. Or maybe not; maybe you think you know me already. You think I am some anti-American anarchist because I dislike George W. Bush. You think that I am immoral and anti-family, because I support women's reproductive freedom and gay rights. You think that I am dangerous, and even evil, because I do not abide by your religious beliefs.

Maybe you are content to think that, to write me off as a "liberal" -- the dreaded "L" word -- and rejoice that your candidate has triumphed over evil, immoral, anti-American, anti-family people like me. But maybe you are still curious. So here goes: this is who I am.

I am a New Yorker. I was here, in my apartment downtown, on September 11th. I watched the Towers burn from the roof of my building. I went inside so that I couldn't see them when they fell. I had friends who were inside. I have a friend who still has nightmares about watching people jump and fall from the Towers. He will never be the same. How many people like him do you know? People that can't sit in a restaurant without plotting an escape route, in case it blows up?

I am a worker. I work across the street from the Citigroup Center, which the government told us is a "target" of terrorism. Later, we found out they were relaying very old information, but it was already too late. They had given me bad dreams again. The subway stop near my office was crowded with bomb-sniffing dogs, policemen in heavy protective gear, soldiers. Now, every time I enter or exit my office, all of my possessions are X-rayed to make sure I don't have any weapons. How often are you stopped by a soldier with a bomb-sniffing dog outside your office?

I am a neighbor. I have a neighbor who is a 9/11 widow. She has two children. My husband does odd jobs for her now, like building bookshelves. Things her husband should do. He uses her husband's tools, and the two little girls tell him, "Those are our daddy's tools." How many 9/11 widows and orphans do you know? How often do you fill in for their dead loved ones?

I am a taxpayer. I worked my butt off to get where I did, and so did my parents. My parents saved and borrowed and sent me to college. I worked my way through graduate school. I won a full tuition scholarship to law school. All for the privilege of working 2,600 hours last year. That works out to a 50 hour week, every week, without any vacation days at all. I get to work by 9 am and rarely leave before 9 pm. I eat dinner at my office much more often than I eat dinner at home. My husband and I paid over $70,000 in federal income tax last year. At some point in the future, we will have to pay much more -- once this country faces its deficit and the impossible burden of Social Security. In fact, the areas of the country that supported Kerry -- New York, California, Illinois, Massachusetts they are the financial centers of the nation. They are the tax base of this country. How much did you pay, Kansas? How much did you contribute to this government you support, Alabama? How much of this war in Iraq did you pay for?

I am a liberal. The funny part is, liberals have this reputation for living in Never-Neverland, being idealists, not being sensible. But let me tell you how I see the world: I see America as one nation in a world of nations. Therefore, I think we should try to get along with other nations. I see that gay people exist. Therefore, I think they should be allowed to exist, and be treated the same as other people. I see ways in which women are not allowed to control their own bodies. Therefore, I think we should give women more control over their bodies. I see that people have awful diseases. Therefore, I think we should enable scientists to try to cure them. I see that we have a Constitution. Therefore, I think it should be upheld. I see that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Therefore, I think that Iraq was not an imminent danger to me. It seems so pragmatic to me. How do you see the world? Do you really think voting against gay marriage will keep people from being gay? Would you really prefer that people continue to die from Parkinson's disease? Do you really not care about the Constitutional rights of political detainees? Would you really have supported the war if you knew the truth, or would you have wanted to spend more of our money on health care, job training, terrorism preparedness?

I am an American. I have an American flag flying outside my home. I love my home more than anything. I love that I grew up right outside New York City. I first went to the Statue of Liberty with my 5th grade class, and my mom and dad took me to the Empire State Building when I was 8. I love taking the subway to Yankee Stadium. I loved living in Washington DC and going on dates to the Lincoln Memorial. It is because I love this country so much that I argue with my political opponents as much I do.

I am not safe. I never feel safe. My in-laws live in a small town in Ohio, and that town has received more federal funding, per capita, for terrorism preparedness than New York City has. I take subways and buses every day. I work in a skyscraper across the street from a "target." I have emergency supplies and a spare pair of sneakers in my desk, in case somethng happens while I'm at work. Do you? How many times a month do you worry that your subway is going to blow up? When you hear sirens on the street, do you run to the window to make sure everything is okay? When you hear an airplane, do you flinch? Do you dread beautiful, blue-skied September days? I don't know a single New Yorker who doesn't spend the month of September on tip-toes, superstitiously praying for rain so we don't have to relive that beautiful, blue-skied day.

I am lonely. I feel that we, as a nation, have alienated all our friends and further provoked our enemies. I feel unprotected. Most of all I feel alienated from my fellow citizens, because I don't understand what you are thinking. You voted for a man who started a war in Iraq for no reason, against the wishes of the entire world. You voted for a man whose lack of foresight and inability to plan has led to massive insurgencies in Iraq, where weapons are disappearing into the hands of terrorists. You voted for a man who let Osama Bin Laden escape into the hills of Afghanistan so that he could start that war in Iraq. You voted for a man who doesn't want to let people love who they want to love; doesn't want to let doctors cure their patients; doesn't want to let women rule their destinies. I don't understand why you voted for this man. For me, it is not enough that he is personable; it is not enough that he seems like one of the guys. Why did you vote for him? Why did you elect a man that lied to us in order to convince us to go to war? (Ten years ago you were incensed when our president lied about his sex life; you thought it was an impeachable offense.) Why did you elect a leader who thinks that strength cannot include diplomacy or international cooperation? Why did you elect a man who did nothing except run away and hide on September 11?

Most of all, I am terrified. I mean daily, I am afraid that I will not survive this. I am afraid that I will lose my husband, that I will never have children, that I will never grow old and watch the sunset in a backyard of my own. I am afraid that my career -- which should end with a triumphant and good-natured roast at a retirement party in 2035 will be cut short by an attack on me and my colleagues, as we sit sending emails and making phone calls one ordinary afternoon. Is your life at stake? Are you terrified?

I don't think you are. I don't think you realize what you have done. And if anything happens to me or the people I love, I blame you. I wanted you to know that.

She is also rare - there are just not that many heterosexual, married, working, paying huge amounts of taxes, witness to terrorist attacks, neighbor to a widow of a terrorist attack persons that are hard core liberals...

Maybe when she has children, she will understand..

Sorry, but I could only read a few paragraphs before my head started hurting.

I suggest read and get ideas from this DU Opus that Bloody Sam Roberts posted here at FR a couple of days ago:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1269465/posts

Greetings denizens of the Democratic Underground.

This message is what is called an 'Opus'. It is basically a resignation of sorts. But it also gives me a chance to take a parting shot at you all before I am banned from here for telling you exactly what I think of you...and this place.

I came here out of curiosity from FreeRepublic.com and have been registered here for some months and have been watching, reading, posting to get a better sense of exactly who you all are. I also registered here knowing full well that George W. Bush would win this election and so that I could deliver my Opus to rub your noses in it. If any of you are the people of tolerance you claim the Left to be, you will read on. If not, and you actually are the closed minded, small minded animals I have found here in past months, you will read no further. Nor should you...for the following paragraphs will give you no solace. If you can comprehend them at all.

First of all, your guy lost. Get over it. It was inevitable. It was inevitable because John Kerry is a loser. He is a liar and a completely manufactured individual. There is nothing genuine about him. Every facet of his life has been part of a calculated plan to bring him to one place. To the Presidency of the United States of America. For heaven's sake, the man fancies himself to be the reincarnation of John Fitzgerald Kennedy! Why would anyone set their sights so low? He was destined to lose this election from the start. The people of this nation, whose eyes are truly open, saw him for what he was. They came out in force and sent him packing. Many of these same people would likely have no problem voting for a Democrat if that party could field a candidate with the type of character that George Bush has at his core. Why do you think Zell Miller was asked to speak at the Republican National Convention? Because he still has some integrity and sees how low and how far the Democratic Party has fallen. I know all of you here have an irrational hatred of George W. Bush but then, you can't help it. You are weak minded fools who believe the lies that your gods tell you. People such as Michael Moore and Terry McAuliffe.

If you would but open your eyes for only a moment, put aside your hatred and see the man, George Bush, not as your President but as a human being, you would see that he truly does care for each and every one of us. Even those who espouse such hatred towards him. The Democrats who get the limelight in this country say they work for the minorities and the disadvantaged in our nation. The Jessie Jacksons, the Al Sharptons, the Tom Daschles et al. In this regard, they are liars. They only wish to tax others so that they may give handouts to these people so that they may become and stay dependent upon those who dole out our money in the form of Welfare and 'entitlements'. It is no wonder that they continue to vote for the Democrats who lie to them to keep them down and sucking at the government teat. Why should they bother trying to help themselves when the government is willing to give them our money for not working? George Bush and the Republicans in Congress have actually taken steps to offer people such as this a 'leg up' to help them improve themselves and their situations. Not hand-outs. It takes work, personal pride and integrity. The numbers of African American voters and Hispanic voters who turned away from the Democratic Party yesterday should prove this to be true. Yet there is still much work to do. You have enslaved millions and we will not quit trying to expose your lies.

George W. Bush has tried to fill vacant judicial seats with qualified, respectable people. We have a great need for judges but the Democrats in the Senate, led by little Tommy Daschle (who is also looking for a new job today), have done all they can to block confirmation of these nominees with obstructionist tactics and by changing the rules. They have done this for one reason only. Because the President is a Republican. That's it. No other reason. How petty and juvenile that is. We finally have the adults in control of the White House and your leaders pull this kind of 5th grade playground bullshit. Pathetic. Well, look where it got them. Tommy's out of a job and George W. Bush got 4 more years! In your faces! I hope you all choke on that one. If you don't, then choke on this one:

George W. Bush will likely be able to appoint 3 or more justices to the Supreme Court, possibly overturning Roe and leaving a his/our mark on the Supreme Court of The United States for twenty years. You like apples? How do you like them apples?

I have listened to Kerry and his minions blather on about the war in Iraq and I am amazed at the lies I hear. To hear John Kerry speak, you'd think that the fact that Sadaam Hussein murdered tens of thousands of Iraqi people meant nothing and the only reason for going there to kick his ass was because of this mythical hunt for "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Gad, how Kerry cried and screamed about those WMDs. The simple fact is that the United States and its armed forces were not sent into Iraq to find WMDs. They went there because Hussein was given ultimatum after ultimatum by your pals at the United Nations. He was told that he was required to provide proof that he had destroyed the WMDs that he said he had....WMDs that were PROVEN to exist over the past 10 years. It was not our job to find them. It was our job to deliver what the United Nations and the rest of the world didn't have the guts to deliver. Justice. Pure and simple. Ask any Iraqi citizen who can now speak freely without fear of being killed by their own government. If you truly believe that things in Iraq are as bad as is reported by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and the other Left leaning media outlets then you have bellied up to the bar, drunk the Kool-Aid and will believe anything that they tell you. Try thinking for yourself for once. Try researching a subject from sources that are independent of the Mainstream Liberal media whores. You might learn something.

And speaking of our Armed Forces, I have a small point for you all to consider concerning the Draft. George Bush stood up on national television and looked into the camera and said he would not institute a draft. Any statements to the contrary are a lie. Did John Kerry do that? NO he did not. What he DID say was that he would put 40,000 more troops on the ground in Iraq. Hello? We have an all volunteer Armed Forces! How do you suppose John Kerry was going to get 40,000 new troops to Iraq? By instituting a draft you DUmmies! That's right. John lied to you and you didn't even know it. And you think George W. Bush is the one who will be bringing back the draft? Wake up, sit down, shut up and learn.

I have also listened to John Kerry carry on about how we must improve our standing in the International community. He says we are looked down upon. Well, here is a news flash for you folks who think that way. Those people who just sent George W. Bush back to the White House for four more years, are Americans who just don't give a damn how we look to the rest of the world. Why should we expend precious energy trying to impress the assholes at the UN who break our laws here while shielding themselves with "Diplomatic Immunity"? I do not speak of parking tickets and jay-walking violations. Far more egregious crimes than those are committed by these scum sucking foreign "dignitaries". Some of them felonies. Why should we try to improve our standing in their eyes? Why should we supplicate ourselves to the Secretary General and his minions when he and others at the top of the UN hierarchy got rich from the sale of Iraqi oil? Oil that was to be sold for the purpose of providing food for the people of Iraq. Oil that was NOT to be sold so that the French and the Germans and the Russians could take that cash from Sadaam in exchange for arms and nuclear technology. Deals that were going on with Kofi Anan's full knowledge while the French and the Germans and the Russians were doing everything they could to forestall the United States' entry into Iraq to put an end to this madness once and for all. All the while, they were screaming that George W. Bush is mad and that they occupied the moral high ground by insisting that the very same United Nations give sanctions more time and issue more resolutions that Sadaam comply with weapons inspections efforts. Is THAT the high ground where we should look for international "friends" to impress with affected airs of dignified behavior and sensitivity? Bullshit. Screw them. We don't care what they think anymore. The UN is a non-entity in our view. Send the whole operation to Sweden and raze the building and put up something useful. We are the future of this country. We will take back what is ours by birthright and expose and expel those who have fraternized and frolicked with those who would do us harm. Yesterday, the Bush Administration won its mandate from people like me. Millions of us who are sick to death of people like you. You and the rest will see that this is the way it is to be.

What also disturbs me is the talk I see here about taking to the streets, armed and ready for insurrection because of an election outcome that you don't agree with. You people have lost all reason and are like lemmings, blind with rage and bloodlust. And you call us Nazis? The fact is that the Nazis were National Socialists. Leftists. Not Conservatives. Read your history.

It is my belief that the real reason all of you went crazy with hate for Bush is that he won the election in 2000 despite all of the efforts of the Left to steal the election. It was Al Gore who filed suit to steal it. It was the Left who disenfranchised thousands of military voters. It was the Left who screamed bloody murder when the highest court in the land stopped the foolishness from the Florida Supreme Court and applied the Rule of Law and affirmed that the Secretary of State in Florida had explicitly followed the rules. Your side couldn't cheat and steal it despite your best efforts and this royally pissed you off. The closest target for your hatred was George W. Bush. The stupidity of the Leftist hate mongers is best summed up in one simple phrase. "Anybody but Bush". Thank God you weren't allowed to get what you wanted. George Bush will lead this country back to where it should be after years of Politically Correct madness. He will lead us morally, militarily and economically to a strong future and if you were truly a thinking person, you would put away your raw emotional hatred and stop to consider this.

You are all whining about how Kerry betrayed you all by not counting ALL of the ballots in Ohio. Here's another news flash for you. He didn't dare. If additional scrutiny was placed on all of those provisional ballots, many of them would have been exposed as fraudulent. Further more, it is likely that the fraud could be traced back to DNC operatives and there would have been charges filed. In fact, I am convinced that your goddess Hillary Clinton made the phone call to Johnny Boy and told him that if he contested Ohio and these ballots exposed anyone close to the heart of the DNC, he would be a dead man. And when Hillary says that, people listen. Except for Vince Foster and Ron Brown. They did not listen.

The Democrat Party is no longer the party of the People. That party has abandoned its base constituency in favor of pleasing the elitists and the intelligencia and the gliteratti. They have abandoned you. The People have spoken and you have all been found severely lacking. The fact that the Republican Party has;

Picked up a net gain of 4 Senate seats in this election
Given George W. Bush a mandate via the popular vote
Shot down gay marriage referendums in all 11 states that put it to a vote
Sent Tom Daschle packing
should make it painfully clear that you are all on the wrong side of many issues today.
I have so much more that I could say but I grow weary of this rant. The depth of your ignorance is as a vast canyon that I simply refuse to attempt to fill by shouting the truth at. It was fun but now I feel dirtied and must return to be among FRiends. In the end, take comfort in each other here at DU. You are all you've got. John Kerry is irrelevant, the UN is irrelevant and Hollywood is irrelevant. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Free Republic RULES!

You may now ban me and delete my account.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Explain to her that as soon as women choose to have sex they *are* taking control of their own reproductive rights, bodies, and destinies.

Your former co-worker really sounds like a good, hard-working American, except for being more than a little paranoid.

You think I am some anti-American anarchist because I dislike George W. Bush. You think that I am immoral and anti-family, because I support women's reproductive freedom and gay rights. You think that I am dangerous, and even evil, because I do not abide by your religious beliefs.

I had to stop here, she kept trying to say what she thinks "they" are thinking. Tell her to get over her delusions. Nobody thinks that and if she really believes red voters do, then she's been brain-washed by MSM divisive speech.

She needs to get out of her own little world more often. She's in danger of becoming the mirror image of the hate-filled bigot that she imagines a red voter is. We red voters have been informed daily for decades through the MSM what the proper blue voter should think, but we've managed to overcome that handicap, thank you.

Seriously, it's not good to demonize fellow Americans - particularly 58 million of them - without even trying to understand why our viewpoints can be different, but it still doesn't make either side un-American monsters.

She's listened to way too many DNC talking points and she's regurgitating all of it. Tell her that untill the DNC stops marginalizing themselves with side special interest groups, they will continue to be rejected by the rest of the country because they don't reach out to us.

And as paranoid is this poor blue is, if you want to finish her off, tell her that all is forgiven if she repents and accepts baptism by Benny Hinn who will be surrounded by dozens of open snake baskets. Ten to one, as bigoted as she is, she'll believe it!:)

Ask her what right she has to bitch about how much money she pays in taxes when she votes for those that strive to constantly increase them.

Ask if she believed the war was just in the days and weeks just before it started. We all believed the intelligence. That several nations' intel, including ours, was wrong means nothing now that we are there. She is spineless for wanting to cut and run now.

Ask why she thinks a woman thats too stupid or inept to use birth control or not have sex until marriage thinks it's her right to then kill another human being when she gets knocked up. That value doesnt necassarily have to be religiously based. It's common sense that you're killing an innocent child.

Since she thinks her contribution is so superior to red states contribution to America, ask her just what she has contributed, rather than taken away, as a lawyer.

I saw the best "bumper sticker" on a car the other day. "It takes more than a flag to be an American." Just because she flies a flag doesnt mean she's a patriot. As a liberal lawyer, her position puts her in contention with everything this country was founded on so I say she is no American. She is French swine.

We dont care to make gay people straight and we dont care what they do in their bedroom. We'd rather not have to hear about it or be reminded about it at every turn. We dont think they should be "married" because by definition, it's between a man and WOman. If you want to have a civil union, I couldnt care less, but it cant be done by clergy.

You need to let this person go -- out of your life.

You can never pull a loser up; a loser will always drag you down.

This is the whole meaning and purpose of such a manifesto -- to blame you and drag you down. If you accept her terms, then you will be one of the countless victims in her life. That is the meaning of her existence. There are professionals and antidepression drugs for such people.

But you the living and the healthy, should pour all your energies into identifying and relating with life-affirming positive people who validate your own existence. There will inevitably be those that will undermine and subvert your confidence and goodwill in humanity and life -- but once you recognize them, keep them at arm's length and don't let them suck up any more of your time and energy than you can. You can't convert them to a happy outlook; they have to want to do it for themselves -- not demand that you and everybody else do it for them. And that is what she is demanding from you at this time.

A lot of the media types are of this personality profile. They require this kind of mass support and love -- which drives them into these high-profile positions of acceptance and influence. They'll do anything for attention -- including telling the vilest lies and deceptions. They get off on manipulating people. It is the "Iago" syndrome of William Shakespeare's classic, Othello. This guy has power by deceiving the king who really has power -- into destroying everything the king values and loves.

There is no upside to associations as these. You have to let these people prey on one another -- while you go on to have rewarding relationships with those capable of them and who desire and value these actualizations.

Your task is to live the best possible life you can imagine -- and avoiding the limitations of those who don't want that for you, or even themselves.

How many of you know..."People that can't sit in a restaurant without plotting an escape route, in case it blows up?"

Quite a few, actually.

You initially stated that you wanted me to know more about you but you spent more time telling me what you believed I thought about you. So here are few my actual thoughts: I'm glad you have the career you want in the city you like. Me too. I actually pay about the same percentage of taxes as you do. I work in a government building that has been under lock-down for three years. I also work on Homeland Security projects from time to time and I think about terrorist attacks pretty much every day.

I voted for Bush because I believe he is the better man for the job during these times. You and I disagree on that but that fact doesn't make either of us "stupid". I do have a deep commitment to my faith and so moral values are important to me. I don't expect you to share my values but don't expect me to share yours, either.

If fact, let's all practice that fabled "diversity" I hear so much about. I'll tolerate your right to hold people like me in the bitterest sort of contempt if you tolerate my right to ignore you. Deal?

'How much did you contribute to this government you support, Alabama? How much of this war in Iraq did you pay for?'

Couldn't get past this line. I can't tell you how many Georgia National Guardsmen are in Iraq and Afghanistan now. My hometown has yellow ribbons and worried families everywhere. One heck of a contribution if you ask me.
