I love Maison because it stands on it's own story without crazy action of magical/mystical gimmicks. My favorite anime (series not movie) of all time is Urasai Yatsura. That is about as oldschool as you can get. I love the oldschool stuff, back before almost every story seemed like the one before it.

I'm sure it's a worthwhile story, it's just not one that interests me... I think Furuba made a good choice in concentrating on characters rather than setting, it emphasises that as weird as the situation is, the important part is the people and their relationships.
