Thank you so much Jen!! She's focusing on 'losing her friends' then tells me half of them are moving away from the area next year anyway, so I'm like "okay."

Then theres the hubby who is ambivalent about it too. My parents think its a good idea. Im just tired of shelling out money to a private school where I have about as much influence as I do a public school : nominal. All they want is my money. Oh and then, when something goes wrong *I* get called on the carpet and get asked why isnt my child performing the way she should. Good way to get my rebellious side up...

Why not suggest to him that you try it over the summer? If it doesn't work at all, you haven't lost anything. Don't be too intense, maybe work two or three days a week, but prove to him that it's a great idea.

FWIW, I homeschooled my son while we were looking for a special needs private school for him. We ran about 4 months. He did great.

The big selling point for him was that once we got through our work he could do what he liked! So much time in school is wasted in class changes, taking roll, and other BS, so we were always through by noon (even earlier if we started with the chickens). As far as hanging with his friends, he has Scouts, martial arts, church youth group, and horseback riding for that.

Since he has multiple learning disabilities, we felt he would do better in a school with a focus on that. And he's doing great, it's a tiny school, there are only 5 kids in his class. He'll be moving on next year to one of three private high schools in the area that deal with "learning differences" as they are calling them now.

But the home schooling was a good experience for us both. In fact, he didn't want to stop!
