The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good afternoon! Evening! (whatever)

I'm completely moved from the apt. now....it's all cleaned up and everything. Even got the cat fur off the ceiling fan.

Maybe I should start watching the EE's tonight.

Great letter. Permit me to point out that we are, correctly, "grateful."

Evening Rosie: Gypsygirl loves her squeaky toy ball and bone when we play fetch in the back yard. The bone has a squeaker in each end, making it two-tone. Don't know what it is about that noise maker, but she sure loves it.

I'm not going to be able to watch it until I get home. Even if I rented it, I sure can't do it Tuesday night - 7 am Wednesday I have a final.

Everyone else, go ahead and par-tay! I just hope we can use spoiler-text.

Evening Sam - well, I have a couple 'island' shirts that would allow me to fly under the radar down there.

Yes, good, I have some drab shirts as well, that I use in VA...in fact, being an "Anglo," I am more comfortable in 'em. Not that I even have much "anglo" blood in me.

May I call you on the land line?

Yeah, but still, do you think you look sort of like you came up from the islands? Wondering ;-)

300wm - thanks for posting this;

g'nad - thank you for sharing your letter with us. It was thoughtful and conveyed the spirit of one who has shared the mantle of command as well. The responsibilty of leading the troops into harms way and trying their utmost to bring them all home is a burden that all too few us could do. Yet you and others did with it with a "Just doing my job" attitude. We thank you and your fellow officers and ncos who performed that mission on a daily basis so others could be made free and those at home could remain secure.

Evening OT - glad to hear you're all moved. "cat hair of the fan" Miss Kitty using it for a merry-go-round? :-)

So far it looks like Best Buy has the best price of ROTK-EE at $22.99 for the four disc set. Don't recall what is in the 5 disc one. Music?

Another "extras" disc...DVD most like. IIRC the first two had additional documentaries by National Geographic and the like.

Also a semi-cool box that looks loke Minas Tirith.

I am really, really hoping to get some movies for Christmas... I currently don't own any of the LotR movies, can you believe that?

At least I have gorgeous hardcover copies of the books, including lovely illustrated Hobbit and Silmarillion.

To: JenB; All

Survived Wal-mart. It actually wasn't tooooo bad, though we had some unexpected adventures.

First off, we knew Margaret and Jim were planning to go too, but they WERE going to go before us. So here Stephen and I were wandering around carelessly and suddenly bumped into the two of them as we came around a corner! And we were both carrying presents for the two of them! We turned and ran to the front, literally. Bystanders musta been rather puzzled at our psychotic behavior. ;-)

Then, after we checked out, we went out to Van-sama. First off, Stephen went to get into The Lemon, as the new Ford Focus has been dubbed (not for any shortcomings, but because it rather looks like one...), and I had to remind him that he was with me. THEN Van-sama was much more badly parked than I remembered - two cars down from the Lemon, and crooked. But we'd been talking a lot as we pulled in, so I didn't think toooo much about it, and we got on in. Then I noticed that the empty windshield wiper fluid bottle that I *thought* I'd thrown out was still between the front seats. Also noticed that it smelled like cigarettes and wondered why someone smoking nearby would have affected it so much. THEN I noticed the beer can in one of the cupholders...and realized that it was NOT Van-sama!

Gosh, that was embarassing! Funny at the same time. Oh, the perils of living in an area where no one locks their car most of the time...

The REAL Van-sama (still a bit cluttered inside but MUCH nicer smelling) was about two cars down from the imposter, nicely parked, and with my stickers, which I woulda noticed had I been paying more attention. Stephen and I had to sit and just laugh for awhile to get over the shock! ;-)

Well, I hadn't seen the EE FOTR till the EE TT came out. Then I finally broke down and got the DVD player and both FOTR and TT EE.

"Didn't want to be hasty" :-)
