The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh yes and "when people tell you that you are the chosen one destined to fight the great evil, ASK FOR SPECIFICE DETAILS."

... I don't have that excuse. I am always this nuts.

I will only fight the great evil if it's "7h3 gr347 3v1l".

Oh, yeah, and everything I know about relationships, I've learned from shoujo manga. Is that bad? Well, it doesn't help too much because the rule seems to be "fall for the guy with wings" and I don't know any of those. Still, my first rule of dating - the "Allen Schezar Rule" holds true for any girl - "Never date a guy prettier than you are".

Eh, I'm weird. I embrace it. I live it, I love it... sigh... I just need to meet the right geek and I'll be happy.

This is reported to be a pic of the helicopter that crashed, taken only a few minutes before it went down.

Look at the pitch of the ship, and the general ugliness of that water. There was all manner of bad s#!t happening there. That is not happy water.

[sigh] The Bering Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska. A place that breaks ships. Just breaks them. In half.

Yeah that seems to be a pretty good rule... er, for women...

Well at least you did not get your lessons from shonen love stories... That might not be good. Unless you are an alien... I am not sure but I think someone would have mentioned it by now if you were.

Shonen love stories? Um, no... shoujo for relationships, shonen for action, but the best stories have a little of both.

I have often wondered if I am an alien. It would explain some things. But I have reason to believe that I am, in fact, mostly human. Or mostly harmless? Whatever.

Yah... ships breakin' in half... not something you see every day. Except in the Bering. That place breaks ships all the time, though mostly it doesn't make the news.

It's just a bad place for ships to be. Problem is, it's right smack on the great circle route from Seattle to Hong Kong.

Wow. That place is amazingly gorgeous, so of course it must be extra deadly...

That's a good way to put it.

There is nothing about Alaska that isn't just absolutely gorgeous. Ten thousand foot mountains that just jump up out of the sea straight up...

There's a place in the inland passage where the channel between the islands is only about a hundred yards wide, but the mountains on either side are thousands of feet high, and yet the channel is several hundred feet deep.

Big ships run through there, and you feel like the ship is brushing the trees on either side, but the beaches are steep and they just drop off quick.

" The Bering Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska. A place that breaks ships. Just breaks them. In half. "

I've heard or read somewhere that the water there so shallow in places that in large seas a ship's stern can hit bottom when climbing a swell or plow into it when riding down one. Is that true?

That last one - the CH-47 - that looks like the one helicopter I've ever ridden in. It was like a flying bus. Really long - had benches on both sides inside for troops. Is that it?

It was still a thrill. It was a test flight to check...something, I can't remember what, and they let a few of us go along. The back was open, so you could see out and down. We had to wear a web belt with a line that connected to rings in the floor...so we couldn't fall even if we were stoopid enough to walk out the end.

It was just as the sun was going down, right along the coast of Italy. Only about a twenty minute flight, but I'll always, always remember it.

Sometimes I think everything I learned in the last four years I learned from anime. Granted, it's things like "don't try to revive dead people" and "even an assassin can reform", but still, it's life lessons.

LOL!
