The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think the saying goes that it is 'easier' to get fergiveness than permission.... not 'better'. ;~D

Haven't got it memorized, but plead to being reasonably insane and somewhat libertarian!

There is something poetic and beautiful about cold weather...this coming from a Floridian...it's true, though.

Have been noticing how the "blue" people have recently been thinking how the "flyover, country bumpkin" types are the ones to blame for electing W.

I think it very apt that us county, out of the mainstream, folk are very similar and parallel to the hobbits of the Shire, we don't need or want a lot of city folk telling everyone what to do, we aren't easily riled, but will stand up when it's important. We stood up.

Yeah and continued smirking about how dumb the middle american electorate is is not going to win them any support either. I'll remember next time around.

Yeah....

tolerance seems very limited, suddenly, among them.

*sigh*

After some of the outraged conversations I've heard in the past week, "flyover country" is somewhat tempting. Either that or NH, which is small enough that the balance could tip pretty easily.

What bothers me isn't so much the anger at losing but the idea that they couldn't POSSIBLY have lost honestly. Last night Dad and I went to a concert and the people behind me (casual acquaintences and a co-worker) were discussing what sort of fraud of COURSE those nasty Republicans MUST have pulled to put "Shrub" in the White House again...they just couldn't believe anyone would actually follow someone like him, so it couldn't have been an honest election.

I guess I'm just being more sensitive than usual, but I was furious.

I'm starting to get ticked also.

I'm starting to think that the Dems are pushing *hatred,* just as Hitler did.

A horrifying thought, hope I'm wrong, and if I'm right, I hope it can't work.

However, the further leftwards our nation moves, the better the chances are that such awful things can work. Snce leftism encourages people identifying themselves as members of their group, instead of as individuals.

Glad we won this one, thank God.

"You dumb redneck, why don't you vote like us?"

"First off, 'cuz y'all called me a dumb redneck. Second, 'cuz y'all want to have two fellers gettin' hitched. If that's smart, I wanna be dumb. Third, y'all think if ol' man Smithers who owns the flickermajigger factory has to pay more taxes, he'll do it with a smile and give evverbody a raise. That dog don't hunt. He'll close the factory and move out to Key Largo like he's been talkin' since 1974, and nobody'll work nor pay taxes. Fourth, even a dumb redneck can figger that Wahhabi Islam and Al Qaeda and the rest of those forks are all busy trying to hold down Falluja and that means they ain't forkin' up Fredericksburg. So why donch'y'all ask Mr. Leahy how to do what Mr. Cheney told him to do, and foller suit."

Whatever happened to the mass Libertarian migration to NH, and the effort to set up a "free state" there?

Or did they all go there, and find their numbers unequal to he task?

Well...part of the trouble is that they aren't necessarily that friendly to Republicans, either. I doubt they'd vote Kerry, but...they certainly aren't Bush fans, either.

I think that free state project is still in progress - only a small percentage of the people who were planning ultimately to move there have done so.

My siblings have been joking a little about talking all our friends and relations into jumping the border into NH - we're right on the border - since it wouldn't take THAT many to make that into a red state...
