The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No Buffett tonight. It's not that sort of night.

Just did some Def Leppard: Pyromania. Now doing some Scorpions: The Zoo.

I'm in a Metal sort of mood tonight.

Did I mention the @$##@ person who tried to update Office (and then thought the solution to his problems was obviously SP2?) was a professor? Gah...

The secretary is recieving a department computer to use at home. Since it won't be under our care, it will develop virii, so I have to teach her about updating.... Ad-aware... and "don't open that attatchment!" stuff. However she apparently only has a modem so the amount of trouble she can get into is limited...

I'm really getting into the Active Directory lately, and lovin' it. It's a fine thing for remote users. Can force firewalls and antivirus b34 allowing access to the knotwork.

Not running a corporate approved antivirii system? Okey dokey... no touchy my hardware...

I'm lovin' it.

Oooppps... gotta go... some AC/DC goin' on now...

Evenin' folks. Winding down here.

Show went pretty well tonite. There were the usual changes, plus we shaved off 15 minutes without substantive edits.

Still, there were moments because some people didn't get the changes (as in they missed the cast meeting prior to the show).

They switched the end of the nativity to fade into the reprise of the main song. But not all of the kids got the message and their stage parents didn't help. So a couple of kids were stuck on stage when they should have exited. And of course they had no concept of "freeze."

I pulled the 8 year old playing my son off the turntable as he was about to walk back into Downtown Richmond...

These plays you do... does someone there write them, or are they established plays you put on?

He could do a lot more stuff in the space he has to work with with the little trains.

You want little? Try Z-gauge, by Marklin.

You can even buy ready-to-run setups in a briefcase. Vey pricey, though.

These plays you do... does someone there write them, or are they established plays you put on?

They are completely original. And, most of the music is written specifically for the show. There are a couple of standard songs we always use (such as a medley of carols at the nativity). Most of the rest is written or at least arranged for the show.

And for two weeks, the front of our sanctuary becomes a Broadway sound stage.

This is the website Glorious Christmas Nights.

I'm thinking this year I'll buy an extra DVD and let it rotate through the Hobbit Hole for anyone who would like to see it.
