Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

~If~ I were nervous to participate in flamewars, the religion wars here are the last place I would venture.... In fact, if you have argued on the woman/marriage bashing threads and in the religion wars, there aren't too many paths you should fear to tread rosie!
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, if you put it that way....
But really, even on those threads, I kinda hang on the edges. Some of them get really brutal!
But the worst was that one pitbull thread. That was pretty horrible.

Nana update...I caught the wife on her way home from class and she filled me in. Bad news isn't quite what I thought.
The doctor said her hip is fine. She doesn't need the walker, can walk with a cane. She should basically be back to where she was before this happened.
Better news is that the terrorpists are gone. The nasty terrorpist had written out a list for the doctor, that included things like "continue to use walker."
Wife threw the list away and yelled to Nana from the other room, "She's not a doctor and she doesn't even know you didn't break your hip." Nana was quiet for a while, but she later agreed.
Nana has agreed that the walkers can go back to the ~attic~.
She also got a cortisone shot for problem with her thumb. That usually lasts about 2 years.
The bad news is that her shoulder doesn't look good. One has already been replaced. But the doctor said he couldn't see the socket. Nana doesn't know that part, but just that she has an appointment to see the "shoulder man" after the first of the year. That ~might~ require surgery. But we're working on convincing Nana it won't until we really know.
And here's my favorite part of the day. On the way home wife said to Nana:
"Mom, if you become a cripple, I will take care of you for the rest of your life. BUT, if you MAKE yourself a cripple, I'll put you in a home."
Nana laughed. But she got it.
Thanks for all the continued prayers and for tolerating my rantings.
Corin wouldn't have gotten very far without his friends.

Heh...there's a new store in the area and I keep hearing the ads for it on the radio: "Sean Bean's Discount Groceries". LOL!
Not the same one, unfortunately...Bean is a very common name around here.
Ah well...

Christmas before last, the Guild adopted the pilots on an aircraft carrier that was stationed in the Persian Gulf area. I think it was the Teddy Roosevelt. I made almost a dozen silky scarves for the fliers, and some stockings to put them in! That was fun cause I got some obviously feminine fabrics, but got some foulards and small paisleys which were very masculine.

Bahama sounds like a good suggestion.
The past couple of years, when Mama was in the nursing home, we didn't want to get her some knick knacks or clothes, so we bought animals for Heifer International to give to families in developing countries, in her name. We sent her the card that showed what we'd gotten her. I think we bought goats one year, and some sheep the next.

Heh.... I didn't see that one or I might have been tempted!
It took me a minute to find it.... you've been on a lot of threads today that I might be tempted to call exploding-booger-head threads ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Actually they don't look that great in pictures, but when they're place on the set up they look pretty good. Paul bought some like that a couple of years ago to dress up a Warhammer battlefield set up.

I don't think my sister wears the silk scar I bought her a while back. At least not to work. Something about it not being 'regulation'...
BAH!
That is why I am not in the military. I came close to joining several times but never did. I have the greatest respect for them but my tolerance for 3v115h!t of the 'because that is how we do it' variety is less than zero.

"Sean Bean's Discount Groceries". LOL!LOL! Indeed! When we used to go camping up near Squam Lake in NH, there was a grocery store in the little town that we passed through on the way, called "Bob's Supermarket". We always called it "Bob's Pretty Good Grocery", which is one of only a couple of thing we remember from listening to "A Prairie Home Companion" before Garrison Keillor went off the liberal deep end.

Yeah, but I don't like the folks Heifer sold my name to. Or the fact that Ed Assner is in their most recent mailing...and some other lib I can't recall.
I got a solicitation for the "Carter Presidential Center" yesterday.
'Course it came along side my Christmas card from The White House.

Tonite is "Preview Night." Our first paying audience, but still at a discount in case we have a major disaster.
See y'all later.
