The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I like being away from everything, but sometimes wish it was an hour and a half or so to a decent airport (though I guess Burlington, VT isn't *bad*).

There's always central NH...

I just don't know what to do...

When it comes down to it, that's where I'm at right now. I don't know which way to turn.

I have this car that I highly suspect is going to be broken beyond what it's worth. I don't owe anything on it...it's paid for. I can't sell it in this condition so I can buy a used car, even.

What does a person do in a situation like this??

I'm really at a loss. I'm more despondent than I've been in a long time...(which still isn't horribly despondent, fyi.)

Diet Dr Pepper. Speak not of the "pepsi" abomination.

Didja read the next bit of my story?

I know what we did in the past when that happened, but it isn't a NICE solution.

Dad usually found someone willing to pay fifty bucks or so to tow it away and use it for parts...this was awhile back so it might get more. This was a friend of the mechanics, I think.

And then he had to take out a loan for another vehicle. Not a nice solution, as I said.

I'm reading it! I'm just part way through the job interview.

OK, going in search of SOME sort of soda. I don't think they have Dr. Pepper, though. Usually I get a Diet Pepsi Vanilla. I like those a lot. Different from regular cola - some would say it's a lot worse, but I like...

My building has a machine with Diet Dr Pepper, on the first floor. I bring a bottle from home but some days are "two-bottle" days...

I recently faced this dilemma with my wife's '02 buick.I had to replace the engine for $2600. It was worthless the way it was . Or buy a new car (with no trade in) for $26,000

It was painful but I replaced the engine.

Go to kbb.com and find out your cars current value as is and stick a for sale sign on it. With the proceeds you may be able to buy another car or at least put a down payment on one.

Just an idea.

I don't think you can get anything but Pepsi products here. Maybe in one of the vending machines in another building, I dunno.

I rarely drink soda or I'd just bring it from home...but some days I just neeeeed it. ;-)

I'll check it out.

The wonderful thing about Dr Pepper is it's sold in Pepsi and Coke machines. Now, finding one that sells Diet, that's another matter.

Technically isn't it a Coke product, though? As in the Coca-cola company?

Yeah...usually the diet choices are far more limited.

The bottle I'm drinking says "Dr Pepper Company". Who knows...

$2000 (and that's being optimistic and saying it's in fair condition.)

Sigh.

I tell ya, I really don't know what's wrong with it. It won't shift out of first gear, the dome lights quit working, the clock and radio quit working, the beep it makes when you leave the keys in it quit working. The headlights work and the dash lights too, but the digital odometer doesn't show up.

I'd get the estimate to fix it so you know what you are up against... It doesn't really matter what you think the van is worth, you have to think cost versus replacement.

If it costs $900 to fix it, you can't buy a new used one for that.... and even up to $2000, is the van fixed is better than a $2000 unknown car with it's own parts that are about to break? it sometimes still pays to fix it.

This is true...

I guess we could get it fixed, which means we'll have to charge it...Visa is another name for SATAN! ;-) Then drive it till Steve graduates and hopefully gets another job SOON!

It can't hurt to get it checked for what's wrong, right?

Doggone it...heroine isn't gonna end up with Mr. Wright after all. I can see that. Grr...I tried to put 'em together, I really did!

But she's rapidly falling for the other guy, in spite of his moodiness.
