Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

oi vey... French...
I took a bit o' French in college. Hated it. And that is saying a lot for me. I am the only person I know who thinks learning Arabic would be fun (not to mention more marketable than Hebrew).
BTW, welcome to the Hole!

mmm, the Gold is nice too.
There is a place in Monterey that makes the BEST margaritas. What was it called...? Might have been Mejor Que Nada. It has been too long.

when I was younger, we used to drive down to the Valley (Brownsville, Tx) to visit my dad's godfather (being Italian, this had special significance!) who lived in Pharr. We never failed to go to Reynosa, to a little bar there. I of course was never old enough to have margaritas or the like, but I do remember that my parents and the godfather considered this the best restaurant/bar in the area.
I hated driving down there because one saw nothing but flat flat flat farmland and monotonous landscape, but once we got there, we loaded up on Ruby Reds, cajeta (goat's milk caramel), pottery, paper flowers, and vanilla...that was back before Mexican vanilla was banned.
I actually miss those days. We only went into Reynosa because my dad's godfather had a very good rapport with the locals and we knew we wouldn't have much trouble if he was along.

OOOOH yeah!! That's the ticket...I LOVE the 1800 Reposado....very smooth...almost like a wine or cognac and wonderful flavor. I now hate Jose Cuervo because of 1800 Reposado.

well...I *think* it was banned...or maybe very severe restrictions on it. I am not real clear on that. My parents muttered something about how the Mexican vanilla was made and the FDA didn't approve and so the amount was at least limited or something...which was a shame, because Mexican vanilla is GOOOOD. No holding back with that stuff!!!

You went to a bar called Reynosa, or you went to Reynosa the town?

Im an insomniac tonight too...despite the fine tequila. I am hopped up on caffeine and it is RAINING TORRENTS here!!! The sun came out only once today, and that was after about five days of thick cloud cover...and even then, there was a definite veil of clouds. It has been pouring buckets here for the last 48-72 hours...
