The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No, it came at the end of the argument, and then the kid pops in, so the argument is more or less over. I actually have a lot more sympathy for the mom than is coming across! She's been through a lot and she really wants what's best for Heroine, she just has different ideas.

Whoo-hoo, I am at 37k. I think I can finish off this chapter and start leading up to the finale. What the heck, if I need more words I'll... throw in a random act of violence or something.

What kind of fish do they even have in Washington?
I guess there must be fish in there somewhere, but do the killer whales eat 'em?

Excellent! I should have plenty of free time at work tomorrow...considering it's our Friday!

Woo-hoo!

Hm...the bourbon seems to be working. I'm brilliant! Well...not, but it does seem to make this slightly easier, at least until the sleepies hit, which they should very soon.

One drink is enough to knock me out pretty hard. Kinda sad. ;-)

'Evening! Here's a thing...

Got my free turkey at work today. Don't like turkey. Taking a small ham to "share" at my aunt'n'uncle's on The Day.

I think I'll be looking up "places to donate food" that will take perishables. Maybe run it out to the Soldier's Home or sumpin'.

Trouble is, I work all day every day but the day itself, by which time a frozen turkey is just More Food For Later rather than A Celebratory Entree.

We'll see...

You don't like turkey???

Heretic!

I'd be happy to take it for ya...but I'm guessing you probably wouldn't wanna drop it off here for me...

Maybe check with local food pantries or churches and see if someone could pick it up where you work or if you could drop it by someone's house?

An article that I read on FR from a study from the AMA said that blue berries were good for lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol. Even more effective that the prescription stuff. So eat lots of blue berries!

Maybe that is my problem. Too many blueberries... My bad cholesterol is low, but my good cholesterol is too high, bumping my overall numbers up too high. hmmm...

My good friend... we have the King of fishes... the fish that once you've fished successfully for, you'll abandon the fishing for all else: The Chinook Salmon. :-)

In Puget Sound, they are typically in the 15 to 30lb range, though the record on sport tackle in Washington is something on the order of 105 or 110 lbs.

They're perhaps one of the more fun fish to play and catch in the world. They run like crazy when hooked, and have to be played carefully. They generally get hooked very lightly in a very soft mouth, and so must be played slowly and carefully to avoid just tearing out the hook and losing the fish.

My personal best for Chinook was a 45 pounder I got up in Sekiu, on a flyrod, of all things. It took maybe 45 minutes to get it up to the boat for the last time and into the net.

Yeah...something like that.

In the meantime I'll just keep recording these old Christmas LPs into my computer...

"Sleigh Ride", New Christy Minstrels, kinda quirky...this record must be from the mid-60s...

Some of those are completely irreplaceable, though!

I still want to see if someday I can find another copy of "The Stingiest Man in Town" - an LP of a musical version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Rankin and Bass (of all people) made a cartoon of it in the seventies, but I want the original record again! We pretty much wore it out growing up.

It was vey old...not sure when it dated to. But I miss it! *snif*

My bad cholesterol is low, but my good cholesterol is too high, bumping my overall numbers up too high. hmmm...

I've only had mine checked once. The doctor told me it was "fine" no numbers, just fine.

That's fine with me.

My sister was talking to me about triglycerides (Probably didn't spell that right) I told her I didn't even know what one was. She was appaled and explained them to me.

I didn't retain the information though.
