The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heya. Welcome home!

We went to our watering hole for some food and pints, and are relaxing on the couch now. Good night!

Greetin's... :-)

Seems I got here a little late.

I did have a nice moment at the airport tonight that I'd like to relate... got into Seattle and was outside baggage claim having a smoke, waiting the baggage to show up. Standing nearby was a soldier in uniform. He was Army, and had the blue cord for Infantry. I didn't see his unit patch, so I'm not sure what unit he was from.

We chatted briefly over a cigarette, and I told him "Welcome home" and that I appreciated his service (wasn't sure yet where he had come from) and shook hands. Turns out that he was incoming from Germany, but had been in Iraq for 15 months. I told him thanks again... and that I thought there was some really important work being done there. His eyes really lit up. "that's right" he said, and "thanks for your support".

There were some other comments that were interesting, but as far as this encounter went... I have to honestly question which of us walked away more happy. He seemed really happy to hear me as an ordinary person give him the thanks he so obviously deserved... but it felt so damn good to talk to that soldier I feel a little guilty that I wasn't standing there waiting for all of them.

All I do is whine and moan about users that are mean to me and my people over email. But here's a guy who's been getting shot at, and worse, for more than the last year or so...

Damn... where do we find people like this?

:-)

And more importantly... what would it take to induce those guys to hunt down the S-O morons?

Mmm... on my first glass of Adult Beverage here. It has not yet improved my writing ability.

I've found that the first one doesn't improve writing ability very much. But by the time I to get to the fifth or so... even if it isn't better it is more bearable. :-)

JenB, I love your NaNo stuff already, especially the casual way you have your main character just flipping the window open to gently remind her elven "neighbors" that people were sleeping...I am enjoying it.

Howdy all!

Thank you! Did you see the links to my new stuff? I love writing this crap!

In tonight's piece, flashback to a trip to a Shakespeare play which gives my characters chances to quote the Bard - way to pad my wordcount! And this one quote, from Romeo and Juliet, seems very fitting:

True, I talk of dreams,
Which are the children of an idle brain,
Begot of nothing but vain fantasy;
Which is as thin of substance as the air.

Well, good, cuz we don't want "Drunken Hobbit-Holer arrested in Seattle" to be the title of our next thread. Probably.

As long as I am given photographer credit rather than a starring role, that's fine.

Ah... good... I think the alcohol is working. I am now a thousand words past my goal for the day and it's not total crap. I think. Of course about 300 of those thousand words are stolen from The Bard, which would be why they aren't crap.

Good morning! I like your tagline...

I have a dilemma this morning! I need a small child.

I made sourdough flapjack batter to bring out to the house so I can make some for the littlest sis and one of my brothers who's in the area - the rest are all at a retreat this weekend. I made it here because it needs to rise for at least an hour. But now...I'm realizing I'm here, the house is seven or eight miles away on bumpy, curvy back roads. I have no lid for the bowl, and no other mixing bowls with lids. I dunno how to do this.

If I had a small child, I could make 'em hold it all the way there, but I'm fresh out of those, too...

Good Morning All - EGE - I'll second that, great tag line.

Beautiful sunny morning here. OT - good luck with final loads of moving.

Corin - more yard work here as well.

Rosie, well, he asks questionly, how did the transport of the sourdough go?

Mornin'

I am avoiding re-organizing the office. No yard work today. Too cold and wet.

I did manage to find my prescription for my glasses/contacts tho. I'm off to the Great WalMart of China to see what I can get.

Dang! Is that sunshine? Still too wet tho...and I got rehearsal at 2:00.

Thanks Rose.

I am trying out new browsers while waiting for the Salvation Army to pick up some (okay, a lot of) unwanted furniture.

Any suggestions, preferences, likes/dislikes, etc?
