Everyone Step Away From the Computers: Save the Servers and GOTV
Posted on 11/02/2004 11:55:11 AM PST by sonsofliberty2000
Let's stop the breathless refreshing and do groundwork. I'll be back around 7 and I suggest all who can to do the same. I'm making phone calls. I'm sure the local GOP headquarters can keep you busy too. Don't whine about the results, go affect them.

I just refreshed this post about 50 times, just to spite you. I'm leaving shortly to go pick up a few elderly people in my precinct to go vote, and I'll be voting at that time. Then later, I'll be doing last minute GOTV stuff.

So bite me.

Crawling/spidering the site today is bad, mmmkay? Please obey the robots.txt or be firewalled what does this mean for those that speak non-geek???

Can you take notes with you, when you vote? I got the ballot and none of the judges up for election, reelection were labeled Republican, Democrat or Independent.

So, halfway through filling out the ballot, I asked if I could go out into the library, get online and do some quick research, so I didn't accidentally vote for any 'rat judges.

I came back about a half-hour later and then got a new ballot, completed it, and fed it through the machine myself, where, presumably, it will later be tallied with all the others.

I live in Ohio too, so I wanted to make sure I do everything properly.

It means "Play Nice". Many websites have a Robot.txt file that specifies what directories WebBots are prohibited from going into. Often, these are search engines and other web crawling applications ('bots) that travel the internet indexing, searching, etc...

Most obey the robot.txt directive, but some don't...

LOL. I'm just trying to help. My local office is dying for volunteers. I'm working the evening shift there, and it does make a difference.

My server can handle a few posters so if a few of you want to post rant and worries and chat you can go to
 http://www.radiocity.dynip.com/RadioCity/HtmlPages/reporter.htm
The server runs over a dialup line (1 week till ISDN, at last!) so it is not a high volume site like FR, and it is a CLOSE YOUR TAGS site. But feel free to use it and keep some of the load off FR today.
I am working from the house today so if problems come up I can fix them.

Do you have a phone?I hope you are not seriously suggesting more get-out-the-vote calls in states like OH.
I really believe it would be counter productive. We have been inundated in this state (including my wife and I on the phones).
Seriously, I've never experienced anything like it and I'm 68. I wince every time the phone rings.
I think we should think hard before the next election about other tools. For example, helping in the expediting of absentee ballots instead of "hauling old folks" to the polls.
