THE GHOST HOTEL

I was traveling across the country, and in western Kansas, decided to stop early and find a motel room.

I see a sign that says "WORLDS LARGEST PRAIRIE DOG, NEXT EXIT", so I took the exit.

The first thing I did was gas my truck up and look around for a motel.

I spot it right beside the gas station, so I registered. $30/night. Asked for and got a discount of $3. The clerk gave me my TV remote control, key and towels. I found towels a little strange, but hell, for $27, what did I care. Went down the hall and put them in the room, cause I was going to see "THE WORLDS LARGEST PRAIRIE DOG"

As I was registering, I noticed that the clerks family was in the back room, 4 kids and a lady. They must have lived there, I remember thinking.

Got back from the "WORLDS LARGEST PRAIRIE DOG" to notice that the parking lot in the motel was pretty full. Walked down the hall and thought "there aren't any sounds coming out of any of these rooms". they must have been all out to dinner.

After taking a shower and watching the news I decided to have a soda pop. Walked down the hall to the ice machine and still no sounds from any of the rooms. Since the ice machine was in the lobby, I looked around there, and of all things, the clerk wasn't on duty, either. The door to his apartment was closed. No TV, no voices, not a sound. Finding this a little strange, I put my ice in the room, and walked down to the other end of the hall. Still no sounds. It was about 7 PM. Strange.

I walked outside and noticed that the motel was a 2 story building, so I decided that the other people were on the second floor. Walked around the building, and no stairs to the second floor. Back into the hall, I walked the hall again, and no stairs to the second floor. This was starting to get creepy. Instead of worrying about it, I went to my room and watched TV.

Middle of the night, my air conditioner came on. I got up and turned it off, figuring that the thermostat had kicked on. Half an hour later, the TV comes on. Reached over, snagged the remote, and turned it off. Another half hour, the TV comes on again, I decide to leave it on, and just turned down the volume. In the morning I wake up to the TV being off.

Take a shower, get dressed, and go to check out. There is a basket on the closed desk clerks desk and a sign that says "leave keys and remote here". I do. Noticed that the cars had all departed the parking lot, my truck was the only one left.

Get in my truck and go to the other side of town where there is a IHOP. I go in, ordered, and the waitress asked me if I had stayed in town last night. I told her the name of the Motel and she said I was mistaken. The motel had been boarded up and closed for the last 6 months. She was adamant. Thought I was crazy.

I go back across town and sure enough, the motel was closed. Had a big sign on it. I know that motel is where I stayed.

By the Way, the worlds largest prairie dog is a cement house, shaped like a prairie dog. It cost me $5.00 to find that out.

You should win an award for the best ghost story. Now, is it REALLY true?

A guy I used to work with told me about the house that his Aunt and Uncle were renting. The first time he went to visit their "new" house, he notices (from the outside) that it has a second floor but as he walks around the house he can't find the stairs. He asks his relatives about this and they tell them that the owner had the staircase removed because the upstairs was haunted and he didn't want the ghosts coming downstairs.

I don't care how cheap a place is to rent, if it's gotten to the point where they've taken the staircase out because of ghosts, I'm not interested.

That is a fabulous story. Remind me that if I ever travel through Western Kansas, you have GOT to tell me where this hotel is!

Your story gave me the chills reading it!! You should take some pictures of the place (If you are traveling in the area again). I would love to see them.
