Put it this way...he was Dan Rather's chief supporter and mentor at CBS. It was the MSM that sanctified JFK and completely villified Richard Nixon, and Uncle Walter was the dean of the MSM. Everyone says that the real problem with Nixon wasn't the crime but the coverup and Nixon reflexively covered up because he was paranoid about a left wing biased media. His paranoia was justified. Nixon was wrong but he was also persecuted and pilloried by the press.

He was uh-ing and ah-ing so much, I couldn't tell if he may have chuckled in the middle of the quote, but he seemed to be serious. I recorded the hour, so I've run it back and written what I heard him say.

Cronkite: I'm a little inclined to think that Karl Rove the a uh the political manager at the White House who is a very clever man ah he probably set up ah up heh bin Laden to this thing. The advantage to the Republican side is to get rid of as a principal subject of the of the campaigns might now get rid of the whole problem of the Al QaQaa dump the uh explosive dump. Uh right now that the last couple of days is uh uh I think upsets the uh Republican campaign.

King then asks when Cronkite thinks the election will be wrapped up. Cronkite thinks it will not be decided until spring (!).

King: Whose to blame for this?

Cronkite: Who is to blame is the intensity of this campaign plus the uh the fact that we have a uh purpose to this in the 60 uh in the last campaign in what year was that now?

King: 2000.

Cronkite: 2000, thank you.

I kid you not...

Red Wally Cronkite's yacht.

Red Wally was against Wind Turbines in his neighborhood.

Ol' Walter says Rove set up this OBL tape, and the election results won't be known until this SPRING!

I hope Laura goes easy on the ol' guy.

Just pretend he's the dottering ol' fool on the porch talk his foolishness. (Which he is - I feel a little sorry for him).

I just read the entire transcript of this LK Live show on the CNN website.

CRONKITE has positively gone WACKO in the BRAIN!!!! Not only did he blame Karl Rove for maybe causing bin Laden to release the tape (TIN FOIL HATS everyone!!), but then in an absolutely exquisite bit of mindless bloviating he has this to say about turnout and potential voter fraud by the Republicans:

"CRONKITE: The only thing that could damage the turnout would be the threats that might be implied, as many of the new registrees are challenged as to their various things. Their spelling of their name and the state where they really come from, whether they're immigrants or not, do they have passports, all that kind of thing. If they are challenged at the polls, as they line up to go into the polls, they may fear having to answer all those questions. Particularly if they do have anything wrong about them and shouldn't vote."

PARTICULARLY IF THEY ARE NOT ENTITLED TO VOTE AND SHOULDN"T VOTE THEY MAY FEAR LINING UP TO VOTE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO VOTE !!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH

Also Laura Ingraham was GR-R-R-R-REAT last night. LK tried repeatedly to cut her off or interrupt but Laura stayed strong as the lone Conservative women amidst a sea of left-wing bullies.

Walter has been a little off his rocker the past few years....

Past few years? Try forever. He was the original Ted Koppel, emphasizing death, not accomplishment, reporting only on the negative, an original founding member of the "Blame America First" crowed.

What Spiro Agnew called the "effete corps of intellectual snobs", the "nattering nabobs of negativism", "querilous critics".

Here's Agnew complaining about network TV press coverage in 1969 :

"When ... President [Nixon] completed his address -- an address, incidentally, that he spent weeks in the preparation of -- his words and policies were subjected to instant analysis and querulous criticism. The audience of 70 million Americans gathered to hear the President of the United States was inherited by a small band of network commentators and self-appointed analysts, the majority of whom expressed in one way or another their hostility to what he had to say.

It was obvious that their minds were made up in advance. Those who recall the fumbling and groping that followed President Johnson’s dramatic disclosure of his intention not to seek another term have seen these men in a genuine state of nonpreparedness. This was not it.

One commentator twice contradicted the President’s statement about the exchange of correspondence with Ho Chi Minh. Another challenged the President’s abilities as a politician. A third asserted that the President was following a Pentagon line. Others, by the expressions on their faces, the tone of their questions, and the sarcasm of their responses, made clear their sharp disapproval."

This has been picked up by Drudge:

CRONKITE: KARL ROVE BEHIND BIN LADEN TAPE
Sat Oct 30 2004 16:31:19 ET

Former CBSNEWS anchorman Walter Cronkite believes Bush adviser Karl Rove is possibly behind the new Bin Laden tape.

Cronkite made the startling comments late Friday during an interview on CNN.

Cronkite said he is "inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing."

Interviewer Larry King did not ask Cronkite to elaborate on the provocative election eve accusation.

"That's it.....they are beyond crazy."
Well, if OBL is locked up in Karl Rove's basement, then why, it would be possible to script it to perfection and set it up, if that's what Cronkite means. But then, producing an impaled OBL body on Oct 31 (Nov 1 would be TOO transparent a ploy) would be even more effective.

Wait, this fits the Crazy wacko's beliefs, Bush and Rove already "have" OBL....But since the Dimwitocrats called him on that as his October suprise he now had him make a tape supporting Kerry.

God Rove is too smart......LMAO at these nuts.

Dammit, I was hoping that Kerry himself would've been the
one to propose the Black Helicopter concept of the tape
being a fake. Of course we have to remember how the Leftist
Political Machine works, you have the nutballs like Moore and
Cronkite out there spewing the Bush-hating conspiracy theories
so the politicos in their ivory towers don't have to get their
hands dirty.

Walt didn't sound bias when he was reporting back then - either he wasn't or I didn't understand what to look for -
