But at the same time we want 60 Minutes to avoid appearing politically motivated??
Sounds like a double standard we need to be careful of.
I hope heads will roll...
No double standard...evidently part of the tape has this moron saying the attack will be "in response to the American people supporting George Bush and his decision to wage war against the Taliban and Al-Queda"....a statement like that, if authentic, helps the President...supressing a tape like this is overtly helping kerri.
Sounds like a double standard we need to be careful of.
CBS wasn't wrong because "they sounded political," they were wrong because they published obvious lies.
I am fully aware of the standards lacking in the MSM.
This tape should not be political. ABC is making it political because they are witholding it. This is something which affects the lives of every single American. This tape is not a charge made by a political opponent.
ABC is holding false standards here. If it was a tape of a dark, hooded figure claiming he and President Bush have been partners since before 9/11 and President Bush knew full the attacks were coming--ABC might have a case.
But this is a tape of a sworn enemy making threats to the lives of citizens.
A case can be made that we have a right to know what we are dealing with before we cast our ballots. I lean towards that one. Air it, give us time to digest it. And (yes, this one is impossible) air it without comment. No friggin' pundits.
This tape, once authenticated, is news. To sit on it is over concerns of political implications is, in fact, politically motivated by definition. To quote Rush (the band, not the talkshow host) "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice". ABC is on the verge of choosing to bury a tape because it might help Bush.
I must wonder if they were in Spain when the train blew up, if you would have sat on the story because you dont show that sort of thing days before an election?
