"Babe Ruth...now there was a pitcher who could hit! Why are there no more Babe Ruths?"
The "Babe" is still two centuries ahead of his time.

Now why is it that pitchers can't hit?For the same reason that hitters can't pitch....

The Sox need to win, they sure won't have the Presidency and that will depress the hell out of them. They all hoped Kerry being President would remove him from their state.

I think it likely has to do with skills required to get to the major leagues. A catcher will not make a major league team, or be retained in the minor leagues for development, unless he shows some ability to hit the ball.
A pitcher's ability to hit has no bearing on whether or not he will make it to the major leagues or be retained for development in the minors. The only thing a club wants to know is can the dude get batters out. If a pitcher can hit as well as pitch then its just icing on the cake.

World Series resumes Tuesday ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - One streak will come to an end when the St. Louis Cardinals host the Boston Red Sox in Game Three of the World Series on Tuesday. After the teams get a day of rest, the Red Sox will carry a six-game postseason winning streak into Busch Stadium. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will be trying to extend their streak of six straight home wins. Boston's most recent installment into its streak was a 6-2 victory in Game Two Sunday at Fenway Park. Despite four errors for the second straight game, the Red Sox prevailed behind a second consecutive heroic outing from ace Curt Schilling. Schilling, who had to have one of the sutures stabilizing a tendon in his right ankle removed Sunday because it had connected with a nerve, allowed just an unearned run and four hits over six innings. He improved to 3-0 with a 0.58 ERA in his postseason career against St. Louis. The Red Sox supported Schilling with two runs each in the first, fourth and sixth innings - all with two out. "They are good situational hitters, a little more aggressive with men on base, and when you put yourself in a hole, it makes it tougher," Cardinals starter Matt Morris said. With hopes of taking a commanding lead in the series, Boston will give the ball to Pedro Martinez on Tuesday. Martinez, who closed the regular season with losses in each of his final four starts, opened the postseason with seven strong innings in a win against the Anaheim Angels in Game Two of the American League Division Series. However, in the ALCS against the New York Yankees, Martinez went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in three appearances. The Cardinals, who have won the last three World Series games they have hosted, will counter with former Red Sox starter Jeff Suppan. Suppan, who was Boston's second-round pick in 1993 and went 12-10 with a 5.87 ERA in two separate stints with the organization, is coming off a career-high 16-win season with the Cardinals. The 29-year-old Suppan matched up with future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens with the Cardinals facing elimination in Game Six of the NLCS against the Houston Astros - and won, 6-4. Boston, which has not won a World Series title since 1918, hopes that its recent Game Three history does not repeat itself. Up two games to none against the New York Mets in the 1986 World Series, Boston dropped Game Three to former Red Sox starter Bob Ojeda, 7-1. The Red Sox have lost each of their last three Game Threes in the World Series, with their last win coming against the Cardinals in 1946. If St. Louis is to continue its home success in the postseason, it must get its 3-4-5 hitters on track. The trio of Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds has gone just 4-for-23 with one RBI through the first two games of the series.

Wow, you're batting 1.000 so far-- a game thread in chat instead of news/current events- like all the other ones have been, a game thread posted on the wrong day, a preview without paragraphs, and a busted image.
Why don't you just ignore this thread you started and make a new one in News-News/Current Events. In fact, I'm begging you. Stop the insanity of this thread.
