The cell phone "void" in the polls

Posted on 10/23/2004 7:04:15 AM PDT by zwerni

ok - i just saw this hyped up expose' on a local news channel about how these polls are totally inaccurate because of the cell phone. they are claiming that kids between the ages of 18 and 30 use their cell phones exclusively and therefore cannot be polled by the traditional pollsters. And they drew a conclusion (as preposterous as this is) that the polls should be shifted by as much as 10 (yes that's ten) points in kerry's favor.

I have heard many comments about the cell phones not showing up in polling data but never heard this much of an impact. definitely seems like desparation (or a way to cover the huge voter fraud).

I am a 46 year old life-long Republican who leaves the house at 6AM and doesn't arrive back until 6PM. When I get home, the LAST thing I want is to answer a freaking telephone. I have both a land-line and a cell. I screen my calls via answering machine or Caller ID so I only talk with family.

I have talked with others in my extended family (all Republicans) who told me they don't have time or the desire to talk with pollsters for 30 minutes so....

All the young voting-age people I know are voting for President Bush also. The MTV liberal/lefty bunch nostalgic for the hippy era they see through rose-colored glasses bunch, aren't the whole picture, though they'd have everyone believe that.
I wish those people would get over themselves, they act like no generation ever mattered until they were born.Perpetual adolescents.

Oh and my daughter uses cell phone exclusively!!!

We also need to bear in mind that the pols also call on weekends, when moms and dads (traditionally GOP) are out of the house with their kids, for church and other activities.

The only poll that really counts is the one on November 2nd.

Be sure to remind your democrat friends to vote on November 3rd.

My son is 25, cell phone only, and he and all his wireless friends are Republicans and voters. Small sample I admit.

"I know my two sons, ages 21 and 19 are voting for W. They tell me most of their friends are voting for W. as well."

Same with my 20 year old daughter and her friends. But the problem with extrapolating anything positive for us from these anecdotes is, people for the most part hang out with their own kind--philosophically speaking, I mean. True of me. Especially as I get older, I am happy to shed those who are just too damned liberal for my taste.

So, taking into account all my friends who are voting for Bush...Bush wins by 95%.

Kerry's support among younger people has fallen--

The African-American support for Bush has grown because of the homosexual marriage issue--

The President made a major policy speech in New Jersey early this week, which tells me that N.J. must still be in play--

These things just do not add up to what the polls are saying.

The internal polling numbers must be even better than we are aware.

Most who have cell phones also have land lines.

However, I do know a couple of people in that age that only have cell. They are voting for BUsh and are "definite voters." A lot of people in that age range don't vote.

I've seen them talk about this too the past few days. What bugs me was that these people seem to think that people who use cell phone exclusively are going to vote for Kerry. I don't think so.

People who use cell phones usually have jobs so the economy isn't going to be a factor for them. People who use cell phones exclusively are generally very young voters who tend not to vote.

There was a pollster on the other day who said that while cell phone use will make future polling difficult it should not taint the polls now to much as they can compensate or weight the poll to reflect these types of voters.

didn't post a vanity about it in the "News/Activism" forum.

Thanks, at least you can read and follow the guidelines aka 'rules'.
But I didn't/don't mean to b&tch, (really) - but lately there's been a rash of postings to the wrong forums. I have everything classified in the order I want to read and I go through my News, or Front Page News and there's all these darn Vanities. I hate wasting my time and it's frustrating.

Ask Howard Dean about that. THANK YOU. I have news for these folks. First of all the overwhelming majority of folks without land lines, cell phones only, are NOT young people. I know people in their 40s and 50s whose only phone is a cell phone. Secondly, what makes them think that young people are going to vote overwhelmingly for sKerry? Third, most of these kids will vote the way their parents vote; and their parents have been polled on their land lines. And, finally, the drug dealers on the cawnah with nothing but a cell phone are not going to vote anyhow. They won't be able to find their way from the crack house to the court house to vote.

18 year olds with cell phones huh?
Don't they normally live with their parents who have fixed phones? Heck even 30 year olds are still lving at home these days.
And what makes the DU clowns think that DemocRATS have more cell phones than Republicans anyway?
Republicans actually WORK , are more educated and make more money. Republicans got cell phones before Democrats, have more cell phones than Democrats. Bring on the cell phone crowd guys, and Bush still clobbers sKerry!
Hanoi John is getting increasingly desperate isn't he? Poor guy, his last atempt to get to ear the pants in that family, and he fails so miserably. He is doomed to taking orders from his crazy wife for good. But hey, thats what you get for being a gigolo.
