The things you noted were not services, they are part of the responsibility of government.
Fair enough. My point was only that you need to pay for what the government provides.
They ALL are inefficient, but that's irrelevant. That isn't the reason to eliminate them. Not cut, eliminate. The reason is they are not the proper role of government in a free society. They are immoral.
And you can't think of a single one. It must be painful to say the words. LOL
All transfer programs are communistic. If you like them, you are a communist.
But whatever, you are surely a liberal troll. And you must have caught management in a weak moment, because you are still here.
Maybe because you are so easy to refute and expose your ideas as so transparently stupid.
SupplySider,
I don't know where the evidence is. I'm only offering an open-mind to all of the possible solutions.
The things you noted were not services, they are part of the responsibility of government.
In my utopian way of looking at things, I want the government to be responsible for defense and infrastructure such as building roads and maintaining freeways.
The top 1% of earners pay 33.6 % of ALL taxes. That's not enough for you?
I do have to say I admire your persistence.
19 terrorists killed more than 600 people with only box cutters. They weren't even citizens.
knwilson,
I honestly do not know the answer to these questions --to pre-empt Protogaras from suggesting such-- so I'm asking you. How do republican vs. democratic administrations stack up when looking at employment, GDP, income, etc?
Does anyone else have some good stats on this?
I think this is where conservatives are fundamentally different than liberals.
I would much rather see problems solved by private enterprise and individuals. Obviously, some things like national security must be government operated, but education, health care, social security, and most social programs should be handled privately.
Even then, some things that need some government oversight, like roads and infrastructure; helping the indigent and disabled; and public schools should be done at a state or local level where they can be more responsive to the citizens.
hate to disagree here - but his statement about communism - the debated ideological nature of it as argued by some thinkers (even very conservative) does not qualify for an "outing". For generations individuals from all political persuasions have made the same statement - and it is essentially a hollow one really. The only way to achieve it is to somehow completely eradicate psychological elements such as human nature and human competition. That utopia also assumes no external strife (i.e. if everyone isn't on board - then it is impossible for it to exist).
That's your idea of utopia? LOL
Against all evidence you still think the government can build roads and maintain them better than they do other things? Hell, they can't even deliver the mail.
Defense is a legitimate function, and I have said so.
When you say well spent, what would you spend it on to make education better?
I honestly don't know. My instinct is to increase the salary for teachers to encourage those better suited to teach to enter the field. I knew a lot of very bright people who wanted to teach but didn't feel that they'd be compensated well enough.
It isn't money that is hurting the system, it's the policies.
I think this is accurate.
You're missing a key point: If that rich guy wants to buy a Corvette and smash it up, that's his business. He earned that money, he can spend it as he sees fit. It is not up to the government or socialists to redistribute a person's earnings.
So, presumably, you'd agree to withhold government services from all those who don't pay net taxes?
Contribute to government services? Are you saying we DON'T??
No, I was responding to another poster following a specific line of thinking -- look at it in context. Why would you think that I would say that you don't contribute? I didn't say that in the slightest.
And I do pay my taxes.
Leapfrog,
Would no government be utopia?
Now THAT would be utopia! It would mean I could Opt out of any program. I opt out of all of them.
So do I, at gunpoint.
The top 1% of earners pay 33.6 % of ALL taxes. That's not enough for you?
