A mouse loose in a Somerset County house may have escaped injury early Tuesday morning, but a woman who lives there wasn't as fortunate.
State police at Somerset said 43-year-old Donald Eugene Rugg was attempting to shoot the rodent with a .22-caliber handgun inside the home he shares with 35-year-old Cathy Jo Harris, along Chicken Bone Road, in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, shortly after midnight.
As he fired the weapon, Harris reportedly walked into the path of the discharged round and was struck in the right arm with birdshot.

Actually, we called it 'rat shot' and it made for a lot of fun.
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
It was a flying mouse
We called it ratshot when I was young.
Why do the words "Darwin Awards" come to mind?
I'm not a gun expert. Is there 22 calibre birdshot shells, or is that the calibre of the shot itself?
Beat me to it!!
I did used to occassionally go to a bar that had four beers on tap: Bud Light, Miller Light, Blatz, and Pabst BR. Since I could get water for free, and Blatz is just plain swill, we used to always go for the Blue (very underrated beer).
This has to be a joke.
"along Chicken Bone Road, in Lower Turkeyfoot Township,"
You just can't make that stuff up. Amazing. It's the address for the "Barking Rooster Mobile Home Park," I'm sure.
D'oh!
I used to shoot squirrels that got into my grandparent's house with those rounds - they lived a bit too close to other houses to use a .22 short. And the guns was a single-shot smooth-bore bolt-action .22. Often after the first shot, the squirrel would jump out of the trees and run full-speed across the yard, with me in hot pursuit trying to work the bolt while running and my relatives on the porch singing "Kill the Wabbit!"
In other news Jerry mouse of Tom and Jerry fame says he has begun wearing a bulletproof vest.
News at 11.
"Birdshot from a .22 handgun?
"
Not so strange. Federal makes a .22 birdshot cartridge. Just Google ".22 birdshot"
I don't know.
It wouldn't be applicable in this incident anyway.
He only winged her.
I assume you mean Møøsë. Mice don't fly. They glide.
Nothing wrong with PBR that a coupla shot's of tequila can't cure.
Well, I'll be durned.
What the heck is he doing using these in the house? Bad enough putting 1 hole in the floor or wall without dozens.
