How about innocently opening it with his real name and his alimony loving exwife won't allow him enough money for an internet account or a computer. or he's getting hate mail from the DU for wonderful posts that got to them
or he logged on at work and might be in trouble there

Or maybe he's using the same screen name somewhere else and is afraid someone will Google it and find him out.
